Boss Fight Progress for Orange Island
Cancrorum is a space ship crab or something with a few fancy moves. Aided by spitting turtles, this boss is sure to be a dizzying spectacle. Too many sprites required though.

hoping i can make time soon to try this out!
It definitely is possible and I've been considering it. My guess is that buttons from left to right would be B A Select Start. The current controller I'm working on is meant to be held, but I also have plans for a split board version with a wire between for desktop play.
Now on the 4th revision of the custom NES controller. The diamond shape for the directional pad buttons is definitely a step in the right direction, but there's still room to improve the ergonomics. At this point it's almost as comfortable as a traditional controller. #retrograming

Orange Island for the NES features a shmup section for the boss fights. Here's a 30fps gif showing off my engine's current progress. 32 baddies/bullets/particles and up to 16 player bullets. The bar on the left shows CPU usage. Enough left for an audio driver! #nesdev
Orange Island finally has stable split vertical scroll on the NES! #nesdev
Help me decide which swirl design goes in the two color risograph 32 page zine I started a year ago. I brought contributors on 6 months ago and they finished their assignments in weeks. I've been frozen with perfectionistisms [WRITERZ BLOKK]. #design
Part III: Finally some light at the end of the tunnel. With some exception, the left and bottom borders are finally static. Time to fix the last few bugs, fill in the right border, and get the color data on screen! #nesdev

Part II: Non-scrolling border illusion for Orange Island.
Playing back at 25% speed, we can see the final border design (mostly) staying static on the left side of the screen. We're blitting between the 2 nametables. Definitely many issues left to mitigate. Large boss metasprite added for fun!
the static border will be on both sides when we're done!
This non-scrolling border illusion trick for Orange Island is feeling half done. The NES can be quite unforgiving. In my head it seemed conceptually simply, but in execution it has been a maddening labyrinth of timing issues.

Quality testing and assurance is how I keep “remixes” like this from going out to customers. I have a lot of these boards though so maybe I should do a special limited release at some point. 🎉🔥🎊

I have been working on a two-color risograph zine. I sent out some invites to collaborators. 3 out 5 have responded positively and the other two remain silent. 🤫
Custom NES dust sleeves in the works. What if Nintendo let form follow function? Definitely needs adjustments.
