Members of ucu at qub with Jo Grady

The UCU Northern Ireland Regional AGM/Conference took place today. We were pleased to welcome the Gen Sec Jo Grady to @qubelfastofficial.bsky.social campus. Not surprisingly, the voluntary severance scheme and ongoing related issues were a key topic for discussion.

8 minutes in, and it's already a classic. The TV trolley. Thanks! #Taskmaster

That's the one he wanted! He loved Sabotage and No Sleep til Brooklyn before I tried Fight for your Right, and he's loving it

Thom wants to listen to the song 'Beastie Boys Oh Yeah'. Delighted he wants Beatie Boys, but what song could that be? Help!

Like a borebag, I've decided to work late, so I can have a mini-lie in tomorrow morning. With no child asking for Paw Patrol and another yogurt. I am so excited.

Honestly, my younger self is enraged that I'm asking this at 5pm, when she thought 11:30am was fine because bars were open

Jonny has taken Thom to Portstewart for the night to spend time with his Nanny. The work day is over. Do I start drinking now, or do I have to wait for a socially acceptable time?

Honestly never felt so patronised.

An incomplete Snakes and Ladders jigsaw.

Thom and I are doing this. I direct him to the correct pieces and sometimes I'll find a wrong piece beside the right one, as a guide. Last time he said 'Mummy, it is so kind when you try so hard to find the right piece. But I think you want to try again and then you can do better'.

At the Oh Yeah Centre for Acoustic Picnic which is lovely. But I think this is the first time I've been here sober. Life has changed a bit over the last few years.

Trump has deployed active military to help round up migrants and put them into detention camps.

The military forced us out of our homes at gunpoint in 1942 because we were considered possibly disloyal Americans. They sent us to internment camps for four years.

History is repeating. Pay attention.

Which makes me wonder how she ended up being the person who led that service, as her politics might not have suited Trump's.

Absolutely. He clearly does not care about God or faith. He uses the language to pander to religious voters. Which is also just disrespectful to any actual faith. It's just a tool to gain votes and they are being played for fools.

'For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’

This is what religion was to me when I was young. I'd love to know more about this bishop. How did they end up being the person leading this prayer service. Did they request it? Were they nervous? Did they see their Christian duty here, as Jesus demanded in Matthew 25: 34-36

Absolutely fantastic. I'm not a practising Catholic now but I was raised on Liberation Theology and that's what this sounds like to me.

He seems like a deeply unserious person, who is a massive troll, and that may be what's happening here. But this remains incredibly serious. It's being welcomed by actual Nazis, even if he isn't one. And I can't imagine a politician from here not being immediately sacked if this happened.

I guess, except I don't know what mindset he must have been in for that particular gesture to come to mind.

And that's not me saying this means Musk is definitely a Nazi or anything like that. I just think that if my grandparents were actually Nazis, I'd be pretty vigilant about things that are related to Nazis.

I only just read that Musk's maternal grandparents had to leave Canada and relocate to South Africa because they were Nazi Sympathisers in Canada, so you'd think he'd be aware of the weight of the gesture. Aside from the other, more general reasons for why most people don't use it.

I just heard about this and thought it was going to be one of those situations which could raise eyebrows but you couldn't be sure. Nope. I can't see how this is interpreted any other way.

David Lynch smirking in an interview

-Believe it or not, Eraserhead is my most spiritual film.
-Elaborate on that.
-No.

I think instead of saying “namaste” at yoga we should say “ohhh BIG stretch” like we do with our pets

The article is about how too many 'elites' have created a 'woke' attitude that means comedians like himself get cancelled for politically incorrect jokes. Same boring nonsense as usual.

When was he cancelled? He's on TV constantly and has several really well paid Netflix specials. Nothing changed except he got some criticisms.
