Israel targets Lebanese state infrastructure, destroying a bridge to cut off parts of sth #Lebanon. Israel Katz, Israel’s defense min, says “this is only the beginning” & Lebanon will lose territory & infrastructure until Hezbollah disarmed. Netanyahu asks for more civilian targets
687 is the death toll in Lebanon so far, and a huge oversight from most prominent media outlets as the majority are comforted by the IDF claims that this is exclusively directed at non-state armed groups and not a war of attrition that is meant to terrorise & incapacitate Leb's civilian population
a team of them in fact
Pete Hegseth is a fool
Seems it was a return to the use of breaking sound barriers and now there are reports of Israelis dropping leaflets over Beirut.
www.orient-institut.org/news-detail/...
A loud boom over #Beirut was heard in Hamra. Either this was an attack, or we're back at this level of psychological warfare where #Israeli warplanes start breaking the sound barrier regularly over the heads of over 2 million Lebanese in the capitol.
Between large-scale evacuation orders and solidarity, while fear of what is yet to come preoccupies everyone in the country.

My latest for @972mag.com on how Israel’s war is against Lebanon.
Not Hezbollah. Lebanon.

Very well deserved! always good to celebrate such victories
any analysis of Israel and Lebanon that does not include the stated desire by multiple Israeli politicians - over many years - to destroy Lebanon itself is either not paying attention, in denial or actively deceiving people
UN warns of widening crisis as Israeli attacks displace 750,000 in Lebanon https://aje.news/594bax
Lebanon’s Ministry of Health: 634 people killed by Israel since March 2.
64 killed today.
Israel just struck an apartment in central Beirut - Aisha Bakkar neighborhood - around 30 minutes ago
Come listen to some brilliant people associated with Timep. For my part I will be ranting about how we live in a dystopian hellscape
The dystopia is here, it's just unevenly distributed
I think my view is that it does feel like Hezbollah or Iran would burn the country to the ground if necessary. That doesn't mean we cater to them but it also doesn't mean you invite them to try. We need a bottom up approach as well to aide and assist people and not just impose a top down one alone
yes for sure. And i've heard more frustration against them. But there is also very little support for the state right now among the population, and especially among Hezbollah's traditional support base (even those criticising them). we're being pressed from all sides
I'm not saying civil conflict is inevitable. Just that there are a contingent that are overly confident. I likely talk to different sources and hear different things, maybe that's why I don't share their same level of confidence.
It's clear Hezbollah is more isolated than before. But Berri is hedging his bets. He's since stayed silent on the issue and refused to speak since the govt decision. I wouldn't suddenly start counting him and other political figures as allies just yet.
personally, I believe Ronnie is too overconfident on the idea that there is no threat of civil war.
Western democracies are also looking at Israeli-made drones to bolster their militaries or for domestic policing and monitoring immigration.... Israeli drones have even been spotted monitoring migration over the Mediterranean Sea.

analysts told me that Hezbollah cannot be disarmed as long as the war continues

Thank you so much for that 🙏 it is dystopian. Palestinians and Lebanese live in a dystopia that is slowly also being imposed on everyone else.
If you watch only one thing today, please let it be this powerful video from @timep.bsky.social's Jad El Dilati, who urgently calls for deescalation and brings to life what it means to be a Lebanese civilian driven from your home amid the horror of Israeli evacuation notices.
I wrote a short thing for @goodlawproject.org goodlawproject.org/elia-ayoub-t...
"All day long, the news is full of bombs dropped by a UK ally on Beirut and I’m struck by the absurdity of it all."
