I’ve never really been a podcast kind of person, but I’d like to be. Does anyone have any recommendations for good podcasts that get you excited?

Also, I understand that some conferences might not have resources, and they’re usually apologetic about offering small sums, but there are some that will be really rude and act like they’re doing you a favor while acknowledging how demanding they are despite the low pay. NO THANKS.

When a writer’s conference sends you a demanding list of things they want you to do while only offering a pittance for the work, my answer is always going to be no, especially as a BIPOC agent. Agents and other faculty deserve to be paid fairly for their work at conferences.

Hey, so this happened. There’s not many occasions where agents can get flowers from the pub industry, especially BIPOC agents, so I just wanted to pop on here to say that I’m honored. 💕

So not ready for Monday. ☠️

Like a cat would actually let you brush their teeth anyway. ☠️😭

It really is. But we also got lucky because our vet was able to use local anesthetic and pull the infected tooth during a check up today. He said it would have been worse if I had caught it too late. We would have had to do full on dental surgery with anesthesia, which would have cost a lot more.

I’m going to need publishing to ramp up buying again because me and one of my cats are having dental emergencies this month. Paying for it all feels impossible. 🥺

Yes, and kind of extra scary when you’re a woman who lives alone, and the querier is a man who somehow has found your personal home address to send their work to.

We talk a lot about bad agents. I agree we definitely should discuss it because it’s not okay. But rarely do we talk about the level of frequent harassment agents receive from querying writers. It can get really bad, which is why we end up choosing to make ourselves less accessible in general.

Lately, I’ve been having quite a few querying writers cross professional boundaries in order to jump the queue. Please do not try to send things to my home address, my personal email, or go through colleagues that I know. It’s scary, invasive, and will result in an automatic no.

One thing that makes me really sad about publishing is when marginalized authors receive messages from young readers about being able to identify with a character and story for the first time, but it means absolutely nothing to a publisher for next books if sales numbers aren’t high enough. 😔

I’m so torn on whether I should clean out my closet or do something fun this weekend. I desperately need to reorganize my closet and get rid of old clothes, but also, who wants to spend their long weekend doing that? 😭

Friend told me about the most recent ridiculous publishing discourse on that other app, and I’m so glad I don’t go there anymore. Some people really need to stop projecting on agents and go outside and touch grass. 😮‍💨

Whenever you get a rotisserie chicken from the grocery store, just know your cats will always get their fair share. I live with big time spoiled brats. 😼😸

It’s hard figuring out if I’m becoming a slower reader/editor because:

1) I’m getting old?
2) If it’s just a side effect of covid?
3) Or maybe it’s both?

It doesn’t make this job easier either way.

Sometimes the only joy I feel is when I can give my cat tummy scritches.

My anxiety levels have gone way down since I stopped logging on to Twitter. And yes, I still refuse to call it by that other name.

I’ve restarted my Korean skincare routine again after spending months of being lazy, and I can never get over the difference when I actually do put in the effort. As a geriatric millennial, I should definitely not slack on this. 🫠

Still thinking about how earlier this year there was an article telling people to save money by not eating breakfast, & then there was one stating that death is an option to be free of student loans. This world really hates poor people and won’t acknowledge the disease that late stage capitalism is.

I’m proud of myself for getting rid of three of my streaming services to save money. I still have four left, but I don’t count Prime because it’s included in my Amazon membership.

Still trying to figure out how to find servers to join on here so I can actually liven up my feed… 🤔
