Currently carrying handfuls of nuts in my pockets because I never know when I'm going to be immobilised by a sleeping cat and miss a meal. A totally rational diet plan I'm sure.

Small talk isn't to get to know a person. It's just a greeting to affirm you're buddies in the universe. I am motivated by wanting the other person to know I am friendly, so I have gotten pretty decent at small tall when I used to hate it.

This Tumblr user summarizes something I've been feeling/doing lately. Against everything going on, it somehow feels helpful.

Terran omega

Four panels, all black. Deep space. Our camera doesn't vary, we are looking at a tumbling space ship, a salvage ship.

Panel 1. Behind the ship, In the background is a small thing that looks like a google map pin.
Caption: ++REPEAT ++ SALVAGE SHIP RESPOND ++
Panel 2 the ship continues to tumble. The pin is much larger now, about the same mass (if not shape) of the tumbling ship
Caption ++SALVAGE SHIP THIS IS BLACK OMEGA ++ PLEASE RESPOND ++
Panel 2
The ship continues to tumble the Black Omega, is now very largely, cropped by the panel, still behind the tumbling ship and obviously larger than it.
Caption: Nothing
Caption: No response. Ship appears to be dead.
Panel 4
The tumbling ship remains, surrounded it now is the centre of the Black Omega, the ship so large it now dwarfs the little scrapyard junker.
Caption: But... I am detecting three lifeforms.
Caption: I can send a drone...?

Double page spread. Left hand side a large full page panel. Terran omega floating in space. An armoured heroic looking character carrying a staff of pure light and wearing a helmet thatโ€™s a cross between dr fate and galactus. Floating behind here (and whereโ€™s sheโ€™s flying towards) is a large chunky salvage ship (which is big and blocky and has two very obvious hands for gripping salvage)
Terran Omega : "No, I think I'd like to do this myself"

Second page has a column of panels.
First: Terran omega flying towards a door (she flies gently while standing)

Second; her hand reaches towards the door and is cracking with energy

Third: her helmet and staff now inside the airlock of the ship
Terran: I'm inside
Terran: ...
Radio: *static*
Terran: Hmmm... on my own.
Terran: Ok

Fourth: sheโ€™s walking carefully down a corridor filled with smoke
Terran: Now. Let's look around.

The house was almost full, even before the opening set - Billy Taylor's piano trio - except for the conspicuous empty table to my right, which bore a RESERVED sign, unusual for Birdland.
After the pianist finished his forty-five-minute set, a party of four men and a woman settled in at the table, rather clamorously, three waiters swooping in quickly to take their orders as a ripple of whispers and exclamations ran through Birdland at the sight of one of the men, Igor Stravinsky. He was a celebrity, and an icon to jazz fans because he sanctified modern jazz by composing Ebony Concerto for Woody Herman and his Orchestra (1946) - a Covarrubias
"Impossible Interview" come true.
As Parker's quintet walked onto the bandstand, trumpeter Red Rodney recognized Stravinsky, front and almost center. Rodney leaned over and told Parker, who did not look at Stravinsky.
Parker immediately called the first number for his band, and, forgoing the customary greeting to the crowd, was off like a shot. At the sound of the opening notes, played in unison by trumpet and alto, a chill went up and down the back of my neck.
They were playing "Koko, which, because of its epochal breakneck tempo

Parker's phrases were flying as fluently as ever on this particular daunting "Koko." At the beginning of his second chorus he interpolated the opening of Stravinsky's Firebird Suite as though it had always been there, a perfect fit, and then sailed on with the rest of the number. Stravinsky roared with delight, pounding his glass on the table, the upward arc of the glass sending its liquor and ice cubes onto the people behind him, who threw up their hands or ducked.

I was a Junior in Wooster High School in Ohio. I was in a class where we were taught to create Crystal Radio sets, requiring an antenna and earphones.
I plugged my set in and the first thing I heard was โ€œKennedy has been shot.โ€
I dropped the earphones; afraid I had made the radio incorrectly.
