And that whole bit where Lestat is evaluating Marius; seeing him as a "superprescence" but marvelling at his casualness and connectedness - he's only got Armand for comparison. I love anything about the uncanny valley of vampirism.

I think the thing I enjoy most besides the Gaul sequence is when he and Lestat are discussing existential meaning of vampirism stuff: it's very animated by the scale of Lestat's need and the way Marius lampshades his own measured doling out of stuff Lestat badly wants to know.

...and of course when you look closely it turns out Marius is nevertheless in a coercive control relationship with the oldest people on Earth; he's constrained (and so are they!) and it is Lestat's atavistic horror, which Marius tries to reassure out of him, that tells the truth.
