I am begging my fellow Canadians to take a break for a second from obsessing about American corruption to focus on our home grown versions.
Ford is a corrupt crony goon who has done countless shady backroom deals. He wants to remove one of our most powerful tools to hold him accountable. Fuck that!

Time for BC to bring back the e-bike rebate!
"Most visitors still arrive by car (70%)" - but the survey question actually asked: "If visiting, how do you typically get to Downtown Ottawa?"
So someone who drove one time to the market and answered the survey is counted once, and someone who walks there EVERY DAY is also counted once. Bad data.
✅ School Streets are one tool to cut the school-zone chaos, making walking and cycling feel safe.
And yet.
❌ No funding or pathway for parent councils, schools, or communities.
Courage needs to come from city leadership - not kids crossing the street.

We've allowed the spaces our children visit everyday to be taken away from them and devoted to motor vehicle chaos.
There is a better way and it starts with support and belief in school streets.

Gas price hikes & shortages “fuel” controversy, especially when they’re “driven” by an illegal war. But let’s not forget one of the most important discussions that should flow from such hikes — how they spotlight the difference between places with mobility choices, and places that are car-dependent.
For a personal finance story, I'm looking to speak with Canadians about transportation costs + housing. Did you buy a more affordable house farther out, then find vehicle costs + travel time added up? Or are you considering transportation in a house hunt? DM or email cailynn.klingbeil@gmail.com Thx!
My latest on how Trump and toxic tech bros are weaponizing AI to target civilians. People are pushing back.
There is a worldwide boycott of CHAT GPT. The stakes are high here.

Safe Parkside, site of the speed camera that was cut down over & over leading to Doug ford banning them, reports another high speed crash on Saturday via their IG account. Somebody will die here again. Doug Ford’s Ontario.
We spoke at PIWC to support Cllr Troster’s inquiry and advocacy on No Right Turns on Red in the urban core.
A flawed city staff report on RTOR shows that we have a lot of work to do in making the city safe to cycle, walk and roll.

We spoke today at PWIC on the topic of a ban on right turns on red.
This is a common sense solution that has been tried all over the world and proven to increase safety. We do not need to reinvent the wheel at every intersection.

Please help us spread the word far and wide — The Urban Truth Collective @urbantruth.bsky.social is now live! My colleagues @tomflood.bsky.social, @grantennis.bsky.social and I have worked hard to get it here, but this is just the beginning. Stay tuned for more from our launch all week! #UrbanTruth

DUI was once a minor infraction. It took the efforts of MADD to make it both legally and socially unacceptable.
Today, distracted driving has become common - and increasingly tolerated - even though its consequences for human life are just as severe. It’s time we treat it with the same seriousness.
Alysa Liu telling 60 Minutes “I love struggling, it makes me feel alive” is a legit revolutionary statement from a Bay Area native in a time when copious amounts of time and resources are being put toward convincing us to opt out of experiencing struggle, friction and self-actualization
We should be very concerned about public health moving from a ideology of "protecting" to one of "moving fast."
These are neoliberal buzzwords that normalize wellness profiteering ("removing red tape") and distract from the harms of cutting public health protections/regulations.
@en.ottawa.ca wants to have it both ways: no traffic calming because drivers are such law-abiding citizens, but we can't ban right-turn-on-red because drivers, like toddlers, can't handle the frustration.
A mayor and Council that cared about the success of #BywardMarket could implement meaningful changes tomorrow by pedestranizing the entire area and ensuring that area parking garages are used to store vehicles. 🧑🦽🚶♀️🚲

The weather’s shaping up to be great for our Hintonburg Heatpump & Hot Chcolate Event on Sat. If you’ve been thinking about a heatpump, join a tour, ask questions from real heatpump homeowners. Kids are welcome, we’ll end at Hintonburg Park so it’s not “booooring” visitaheatpump.ca/tours/Sxi832...
Truck size. Street design. Zoning that demands driving. Indifference to children in urban planning.
Local kids thrilled at the chance for a playdate at a set time and location for a predetermined length driven to and supervised by hovering parents in an indoor hazard free playground -
“it’s the lack of spontaneity, risk and autonomy they love”
We need to stop using the poor to act as noise barriers for "real communities.
I'm disabled and sleep poorly due to pain. The only step-free homes are apartments in noisy areas.

The urban planning profession in Canada needs to take a long look in the mirror if Edmonton, one of our more progressive cities for this, thinks that stacking renters on polluted arterial roads is an ok trade-off to appease homeowners. It is a public health disaster of a policy.
Bad Bunny is telling the world that the people in Puerto Rico are American citizens and deserve reliable and resilient electricity and infrastructure investment from the U.S. government.

Beautiful view along the York Stairs (NCC owned and maintained) onto York Street, filled with parking and car space (city owned and maintained). The contrast in design leadership couldn’t be starker.
