changing my @ bc i didn't realize my library thread would go off and i need to protect my privacy whoops

i've heard this is bc of SB412. it went into effect on September 1 and raises the threat of criminal prosecution for librarians & library staff. people are scared of possible repercussions if patrons believe we are distributing or displaying harmful materials to minors. let librarians do their job!

Thanks to everyone emailing about the impact of Texas SB20 on manga & anime. We fought to keep this bill from being passed, but the TX legislature was locked in - no one wanted to risk opposing the bill publicly. We're working on next steps.

hi ana! thank you for reaching out, but bc i don't work in our tech dep, i don't have all the details about our situation and wouldn't want to spread further misinformation. our admin is keeping quiet abt the issue, so i worry i'll get in trouble for saying anything as well.

i heard about that, so i'm not sure why. we were told that bc of a "texas legislation" issue and against our tech dep's wishes they were forced to move books deemed "inappropriate for children/teens" to adult sections or to remove them so minors can't check out, "inappropriate" being used loosely

thank you for sharing but unfortunately, as i don't work in tech (i work in programming), i don't have all the information and my library has been keeping this under wraps from the public (saying it's just us "relocating materials") I'd rather not say where i work in case it gets me into trouble!

this is the kind of censorship we're facing due to texas legislation. some of the "inappropriate content" is just a difference in culture norms and not fan service, excessive nudity, or graphic violence in these manga. my teens should be allowed to freely read manga categorized for their age group!

bc this is getting circulated, i feel like i should add that manga as harmless as laid-back camp (a slice of life camping series) are being moved to the adult section and cannot be checked out by minors bc of "inappropriate content." the specific inappropriate content being them visiting hot springs

All our youth materials are being rechecked to see if they're "appropriate for minors" and either moved to a different section or taken out all together to comply with new laws

Hi! I work in the Programning and not Tech, so I'm not privy to all the details. We were told bc it's a Texas Legislation issue, we were forced to comply. This meant moving 90% of our manga & other previously categorized Teen books to the Adult section, where they cannot be checked out by minors

i just know a crash out as hard as lex luthor's at the end of superman 2025 would heal me
