A Convenient Loophole
Durham County Council’s Reform UK Deputy Leader Darren Grimes’ register of interests is remarkably sparse. So when he complained recently of having been “demonetised” by Facebook owner Meta for his rage-bait video content on the platform (Meta apparently stopped the payments after realising he is an elected official and ineligible), it got me thinking: why has he never declared that income?

Under ‘employment’ on his council records, Grimes lists only his D-Dog Media Ltd firm, of which he is the director. I asked him and the council why he has not previously declared income from Facebook/Meta. Or, for that matter, his (presumably significant) income from Elon Musk’s X ‘creator revenue sharing’ programme, which bungs thousands of pounds a month to the likes of Reform Leader Nigel Farage, far-right convicted criminal Stephen Yaxley-Lennon (‘Tommy Robinson’), and likely Grimes, too.

Helen Bradley, the council’s director of legal and democratic services, said: “We understand income from Cllr Grimes’ social media has been paid to a company, of which he is a director. This company is declared on his register of interests.”

So if he has a company, he doesn’t have to declare any of his clients or who is paying him?

A council spokesperson responded: “There is no requirement for them to declare clients or payees of any business listed on this register.”

It is, to my eyes, an outrageous loophole that means any local politician trying to hide their income streams can simply run it through a company. And voters are none the wiser. ■

The Pro-Trump Bias of the 'Neutral' Sources in the Leaked BBC 'Prescott Dossier' Byline Times’ analysis of key sources in the memo about the BBC’s alleged ‘progressive bias’ shows it relied on highly partisan right-wing, Trump-aligned organisations

In part 2 of my @bylinetimes.bsky.social investigation, I reveal how the 'BBC bias' memo - written by a Trump-aligned lobbyist whose firm was paid up to a million by pro-Trump donor tech giants - was politically biased and reliant on pro-Trump partisan sources bylinetimes.com/2025/11/11/p...

The trouble with dribbles – a revealing prostate cancer journey Prostate cancer can develop silently. Some have no classic prostate cancer symptoms. Early checks are vital – sometimes, the signs are hidden

Back in the 1970s, prostate cancer treatment could mean surgical castration.
Today, treatment is very different – without the trauma.
This is Ben’s story.

There is currently nothing to discuss or negotiate with Russia, since it clearly only seeks to buy time and continue its war.

When talks eventually happen, Trump should not be the negotiator, because he is being blackmailed by Russia

The Labour government is asked yet again when it plans to respond to the ICJ's demand, issued 16 months ago, that states stop aiding Israel's illegal occupation.

Ministers appear to have no intention of responding, because it would incriminate their ally Israel.

Land is power – Scotland’s people have none Land isn't just about wealth and justice, it's about power. Scotland is cut off from its own land resources and hence is poorer as a nation

"The Scottish Government devised a scheme to help the very rich cream off public subsidies for tree planting. Buy land and then the Scottish Government will help you make a fortune from it by planting trees – any trees, anywhere. That is government for the rich, not for the public good."

Johnson, more than Farage and any other single person, destroyed the UK. Mostly through his appallingly and lastingly damaging Brexit, but also, like Trump, through inflicting his dishonesty and ignorance on us and encouraging rampant corruption at the highest levels of govt.

Why a group of wealthy Brits have urged Reeves to introduce a wealth tax This appeal comes ahead of Reeves’s upcoming Budget announcement in Westminster later this month

Millionaires group urge Reeves to introduce wealth tax to ‘lift kids of out poverty’.

But Govts listen to the City type.

1% have more wealth than 70% of the population.
Poorest 20% pay higher proportion of income in taxes than the richest 20%.

Can't grow economic by squeezing the bottom 50%.
