A prerequisite for DM impostor syndrome is that you believe people are lying to you about your performance because they are worried about insulting you. Great way to circumvent this is to ask players what content they want included, and then include that. This effectively functions as feedback.

I was literally about to ask "Have you listened to Atrium Carceri they're probably up your alley" and lo and behold you're listening to them. Excellent choice

This now gives me a homebrew idea:

Healing potions work very well, but alcohol is a key component. So the more a character heals the more drunk they become.

If you wish that you could award players for doing cool things but your players are ALWAYS doing cool things, you can also reward them with a flat +1.

This bonus isn't amazing, but increases their chances of success by 5%; and this also stacks with advantage for higher chances.

Yea I like this style a lot and I hope it gets implemented into more games.

I don't think RNG should decide IF your player does something, as you said. But it could decide, to a point, WHAT your character does. That way there's still stakes with RNG.

DnD thought for the day:

Maybe turn skip mechanics aren't actually that fun and players would like control of their characters and to not lose several turns in a row.

If your players are frustrated because of turn skip mechanics, maybe it's because it's fundamentally bad game design.

Cool homebrew rule that's worked well in my games: Give players a free future reroll or award inspiration on a Nat 1. It may be a guaranteed failure but can set up for a later clutch success. This will make players in your game much less frustrated. They should get a reward for their suffering.

Someone made a video on this actually; adv only = a +5 when you would otherwise have a 50% chance to meet DC.

Adv also decreases the chances of rolling low in the first place, however.

Adv is also easier to gain by way of help action or class resources.

I'm taking the +5.

DnD Pro tip for DMs and Players: Count the damage you take UP until it matches with your max HP. Addition is easier than substraction.

"What the players can do, the DM can do" is a useless and harmful notion because the DM can pick and choose what to use for later; and they can sort of do that ANYWAYS. They have final say on rulings.

"What the DM can do, the players can do" makes way more sense because characters learn tricks.

Friendly Reminder: The DM has final say on rulings; UNLESS the majority of the party disagrees with the ruling.

Chances are if everyone thinks your ruling is dumb, your ruling MIGHT, in fact, be dumb.

The DM does not weild absolute authority, nor should they. Communicate with eachother.

If I can offer some advice. Try and make a character build around doing one thing.

For example I'm currently playing a bg3 character who is min-maxing the ray of frost cantrip. It's all they do. I don't have to think about what I'm doing because I've thought of that during character creation.

I've been sayin!!!! DnD is supposed to be fun. If a player wants to play out a power fantasy I don't see what reasons there to not them do that.

It's unfortunate how much abusive households have even pushed this further. Often I feel like I'm the one that has to tell people "Don't say you yes just because you were conditioned to as a child."

I obviously agree that "yes means yes" is still the better statement.
