Just got off a long flight to find out this sad news. She was such an inspiration. For me she lit a flame in me to see children as rich and competent and as subjects with rights, citizens of now and not just their future. I’m heart broken but thankful for her wisdom, kindness and thinking.

And children can construct much more valuable & complex ‘knowledge’ through an approach to curriculum making with children in which their agency, rights to participation & ‘real questions’ (Hedges) are acknowledged & amplified. 70% at GLD is just tinkering with something already broken & arbitrary😞

Curricula as experiential!

I’m talking in Liverpool this week about just this! Curriculum as something living, experienced, participated in. Curriculum making with children with their ideas and questions which emerge responded to. Random topics about bears and under the sea plus arbitrary goalposts are more than unhelpful!

I see what they notice and are thinking about. They’re thinking through the materials and onto the paper. Building and constructing knowledge, and communicating that multimodally.

Transitioning to here from ‘that’ other place and keen to link and connect with others in ECE to learn, think and work together. All things early years but fascinated with the power of the arts, creativity and pedagogies which support participation, listening and thinking through materials.
