I specify AFAB because Jim subverts the “woman disguised as a man on a pirate ship” trope, but a case probably could be made for any gender non-conforming person.
That still leaves a small list of candidates, either way!
Jim is probably the hardest nut to crack because basically no one was going around using they/them pronouns, much less a somewhat known actor. I feel like the best compromise would be a queer AFAB person, whether that be a trans man, a drag king, or a woman with a gender non-conforming presentation.
Genuinely the only other actor I can think of that could have done the role justice is Robin Williams. Which makes me want to do a 90s casting for OFMD, but I was unfortunately too “not alive” during the 90s, so it’s somewhat difficult
