I face two difficult legal battles this year:
One is an anti-SLAPP motion over my exposé on the dirty secrets of Cdn fencing.
The other is defending myself after being falsely accused of something I didn't do.
I know the truth will prevail. But fighting for the truth comes at a steep price.

I know I'm innocent. I know I didn’t do anything wrong.
But as anyone familiar with the legal system will tell you, the process itself is the punishment.

I can’t fight this alone. I’m an unemployed writer and legal bills don’t pay themselves.

As a child born under a Red Star in the Golden Epoch of my Fatherland, I first learned that love meant dying for your homeland.
Love = Sacrifice for a Collective or a Noble Cause
When I was 10, they praised my propaganda & read my words over school loudspeakers.
My first love poem was for Ceausescu.

I exchanged words for affection, for food, for family.
As a 16yo immigrant runaway from a poor, abusive home
I echoed hatemongers words, and learned how
Hate earned me Love.
The more I loved them, the more I hated whoever they told me to hate
And the more I hated, the more my new Family loved me.

There was a time I traded my voice for silence
Desperately hoping my coaches would choose me
But still I wasn’t chosen.
I allowed their valuations to devalue me
Traded words I should have spoken, for silence
But still they didn't like me any better.

I should've screamed it from the rooftops.

Later, I rewrote manuscripts because my sleazy, drunk literary agent’s vision of a bestseller required more “dirty lesbo sex”
Before he'd pitch my book to parasitic gatekeepers whose livelihoods depend on exploiting starry-eyed artists
Desperate to trade their authenticity & voice for a dream.

In 2015, I published my novel Daughters of the Air, a retelling of The Little Mermaid.
The story hasn’t changed much since then.

When the mermaid first sees the prince, she's enchanted
Longing for his Love, she bargains with the Sea Witch and trades her tongue for legs - so she can walk to him.

But in the end, she dies of a broken heart and dissolves into sea foam.
I know the feeling.
There was a time when I too traded my voice for love & the mirage of a future
Only to understand that in the end, all promises dissolve like sea foam.
So instead, I want to sell you my words.
