Kash Patel fired FBI counterintelligence staffers responsible for monitoring threats from Iran.
He did this just before Trump launched this insane war due to their involvement in the FBI's investigation of Trump's classified documents scandal.

War is not the answer! Congress must act to end this illegal and immoral war.
The House plans to take up this measure as soon as tomorrow - they have an opportunity to do the right thing.

Israeli map showing all of southern Lebanon in red with yellow arrows pointing to north of the Litani river
The IDF just ordered the *entirety of south Lebanon* to be forcibly displaced.
They are emptying the land of its population, creating a massive crisis, and will now proceed to further annihilate large parts of Lebanon.
The very nation state of Lebanon is being destroyed.

News: Commanders across dozens of U.S. military bases told troops the war on Iran is part of "God's plan" so Trump can bring about "Armageddon"
News: so Trump can bring about "Armageddon." The Military Religious Freedom Foundation (MRFF) has been
"inundated" with complaints since the U.S. and Israel launched attacks on Iran over the weekend, receiving more than 110 complaints from U.S. military personnel stationed at dozens of sites across the Middle East.
Journalist Jonathan Larsen broke the story, sharing specific complaints made by troops. One such complaint made by a noncommissioned officer reported that their commander had
"urged us to tell our troops that this was 'all part of God's divine plan' and he specifically referenced numerous citations out of the Book of Revelation referring to Armageddon and the imminent return of Jesus Christ."
"He said that 'President Trump has been anointed by Jesus to light the signal fire in Iran to cause Armageddon and mark his return to Earth," the NCO continued. "He had a big grin on his face when he said all of this which made his message seem even more crazy."
MRFF told Larsen that over 110 complaints came
The Military Religious Freedom Foundation has received 110+ complaints from US service members across 30+ sites about commanders using religious rhetoric
Including calling the war with Iran "part of God's plan" and Trump "anointed by Jesus to light the signal fire in Iran to cause Armageddonβ

A big part of the authoritarian playbook is war. War takes over the news. War blots out criticism. War divides a nationβs people, subjecting those against it to being called unpatriotic. War grants leaders all sorts of emergency powers. War consumes everything else.
We mustnβt let this war do so.

From War Zones to Minneapolis, βCivilian Self-Protectionβ Proves Its Value
Many tactics used in Minneapolis are akin to civilian efforts to protect each other from human rights violations in wars or highly repressive situations.
My @wpr.bsky.social piece with @charlicarpenter.bsky.social centers the heroic civilian self-protection efforts in MN (which continue today), arguing not only are Minnesotans protecting each other, but global human rights norms as well:

This stunt where ICE releases people far from home with no proper clothing and no way home should be treated as attempted homicide. In this case, actual homicide. These cases are not accidental or based on misunderstandings. They are deliberate attempts to inflict bodily harm.

How to build emergency response systems for the long haul
The international accompaniment movement teaches us that to avoid burnout, we must build durable, collective and supportive structures now.
No one makes a decision alone
Rotate decision makers
Institute urgency guides
These are some of the strategies developed over decades of accompaniment in violent, repressive political contexts that Zia Kandler & I learned & now share. I hope they're useful. π

These are βlow enrollmentβ majors but the classes are regularly at capacity. They changed the funding structure a few years ago here, switching the allocation from course enrollments to majors then blamed these departments for a structural, top-down change. This is entirely a political choice.

Really appreciate this data reporting from the @startribune.com, which comes with the appropriate cautions about the crowd-sourced data. Looks like the ICE/DHS surge in MN is down significantly, but (a) was HUGE compared to other cities, (b) impacted the suburbs A LOT, and (c) is still happening.
