My essay “I Had Good Luck Today” has just been published by Akademie Schloss Solitude.

It’s about ordinary life in Ukraine during the war.

We’ve been doing this project for three years now, without a single professional stand-up comedian, and people still keep coming. Now we’ve even launched a collaboration with a body armor manufacturer.

Every three weeks in Kyiv we run veteran-volunteer stand-up nights: cringe jokes and fundraising for tactical medicine. We usually raise up to $1,000 in a single evening.
Hosted by the brilliant Andrii Zotikov and a whole team of people who forbid me from joking about hair ties or telling old jokes⬇️

Social skepticism is toxic. Around me, people volunteer, and it’s a better world than the one where everyone assumes hidden interests.

The exhibition in Lviv? Only printing costs. The playwriting course for veterans? Also volunteer.

Do the work.

In Balakun there’s a question: “How did you hear about us?”

Options:
– social media
– friends
– Alina
That just means many students learned about the project from me. I’m not paid. It’s fully volunteer developers, admins, 2,000 mentors, all unpaid.

Same with Leleka. I support because I choose to.

Today, ornithologist Hanna Kuzio and I are opening our exhibition. Through art, we speak about empathy and the connections between sparrows, which are disappearing in modern cities, and homeless women.

Join us at 6:00 PM in Lviv at the Center for Urban Mobility, 24 Bandera Street.

Today I will speak about Ukraine at NYU Prague.

The discussion, “Culture during Wartime,” marks the 4th anniversary of the full-scale russian invasion. We will talk about how culture documents war.

Ukraine has intelligence indicating that the Russian Federation intends to continue carrying out similar terror.

Twenty-five people were injured and one person was killed.

The perpetrators were recruited via Telegram, and the organisation behind the attack is Russian

During a nighttime terrorist attack in Lviv, police officer Viktoriia Shpylka was killed. She was only 23.

Last autumn she married a patrol officer. They served together and were dreaming about their future.

“Menstruation” – Performance of the Year!
Today we received the Black Lotus award.

I am incredibly proud that we gave these women a voice. This performance is about hidden and uncomfortable female experiences during the war. Two of the five protagonists are sex workers.

Yesterday in Stockholm, there was a performance based on my text “Military Mama” at the Royal Dramatic Theatre, Dramaten. The text is about combat medics, and afterwards I had the chance to speak to the audience about their work and ask them to donate to the Leleka Foundation.

Among the requirements were C1 English and about a million years of communications experience, so I applied with zero expectations, just so I would not regret not trying.

So here it is
😱😱😱
It is always worth trying.

I had my interview for a fellowship at the train station. The train was supposed to depart, but it was delayed, so I was telling a very serious Polish-German committee about Ukrainian resilience while boarding the carriage, and the conductor was scanning my ticket from my phone at the same time.

Maybe my face looks this way because I am an old woman living in difficult times. I have no optimism, but I do have people. Right now, the most recent contacts in my messenger, are all people who sacrifice their own interests for others.

We are shaped by our time. Not cheerful, but full of stories.

We want to speak with Europeans in the language of art. Let this discussion remind artists that their task is to toughen people and to save them.

I did not sleep today and spent seven hours at the border just to fly to Stockholm. Only for one day, then I have to return to Ukraine
