Like obviously I am biased here cause I’m a child of the nomura era. I grew up with kingdom Hearts, The Bouncer, FFX and later FFXIII, TWEWY. It is a case of “my thing was good and new thing is bad” but like… it’s such a hard swallow going from a direction so unique to this level of bog standard

Ikushima and Yoshida have this very similar beige tattered paper looking low fantasy style and it bores me. I find it so goddamn dull. Bravely default, ff14 and ff16, Octopath, this Elliot game, triangle strategy, it forms a very indistinct tan slurry in my mind and I’m just so sick of it

But the shit they showed off at the end of the direct today had me so numb and got me thinking and like holy fuck I know what it is, I think o completely and utterly hate the direction of the 2 big square artists that they attach to everything these days

I feel like I’m less of an HD-2D hater than most, kinda always just struck me as an okay way to make a cheaper game that still has elements that are visually wowing to mainstream sensibilities. Doesn’t always look the best but like fuck it, pixel art is nice and I like AA lower budget shit
