To ease you into the weekend, here's a lovely film by Guy Schofield, one of two winners of this year's President’s Award.

The film is about an interactive mural commissioned by York Museums Trust for the exhibition Star Carr: Life After The Ice.

Enjoy! 😊

Only if you’re β€˜measuring’ a certain way. Steiner kids don’t even start formal reading till they’re 7, and it’s not a problem (in fact, a benefit! More creativity & play). Same in Scandinavian countries. What’s more significant is the lack of contact with others that Covid restrictions caused.

UK's first 'super-university' to be created as two merge from 2026 - BBC News Universities are facing ongoing financial worries, with the regulator saying other mergers could follow.

Not the only institutions to do this over the next couple of years, I’m sure. The idea of a β€˜super-University’ is nonsense, stated in a bid to try and make this sound like a good thing. Oh dear …

American musical satirist Tom Lehrer dies at 97, US media report Lehrer, a Harvard-trained mathematician, wrote darkly humorous songs, often with political connotations.

My 8-year-old son and I are greatly saddened by the death of the wonderful Tom Lehrer, so good was he that even this gaming, digitally-savvy kid of mine loves his songs. RIP #TomLehrer & may the Vatican Rag be played on the other side www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

What they’ve done (& are still doing) to Exeter makes me feel ill every time I go home to Devon. And, sadly, huge swathes of shite housing in other parts of Devon. To name a few: Totnes, Barnstaple, even Holsworthy! How to ruin a county. For ever.

If I've been rather quiet of late, that's because there's not much to say now about the university crisis. We've passed beyond the stage at which warnings can do much good, and we're not looking at a planned reconstruction or new policies so much as individual rescue and salvage. (1/?)

Two key (& big!) questions for @drbeth.bsky.social’s workshop - which would be good to reflect on in our day-to-day jobs, I think - β€œAs managers, how do we support people doing research?”
β€œAs researchers, what do we ask for from managers?” #darts9
