I’m sure my library colleague, Tom Mandall, & Jasmine Kee from Explore the Past, have had a fab evening tonight delivering this talk. Wish I could’ve been there! #Worcester www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

#FolkloreSunday #Celtic: `Imbolc is associated with the onset of the lambing season, and the lactation of ewes; in fact, in Old Irish, #Imbolc actually comes from words meaning ‘in the belly’, which refers to the pregnancy of ewes.`

Love the amulet! #apotropaia
What a fascinating and thoughtful history of Merl and the University. So many things we didn’t know - all entertainingly discussed. Fascism and organic farming, who’d a thunk it! Never did get to dress up in printers’ aprons or artists’ smocks, though.
So pleased to see this! Martin Froy’s work is so fantastic. I’ve seen his murals @belgradetheatre.bsky.social #Coventry Just stunningly beautiful! @aaronjlaw.bsky.social
Neither doorway nor corbels mentioned in the (1958 - presumably influenced by Pevsner’s disregard for the Romanesque) HE listing!
Church of SS Peter & Paul, Rock, Worcs #romanesque corbels on N side & also where main doorway is. Several paired corbels, a few animals & possibly some human representations. A few of those ‘not arrow-sharpening’ grooves on the lower walls, too.
Great day yesterday setting up the new #basketball display cabinet @ #UniversityofWorcesterArena, ready for the #NationalBasketballHeritageCollection (NBHC) celebration event today! The main NBHC is held #TheHive #Worcester
Update! Alongside the exhibition @senatehouselib.bsky.social also seeks to appoint a Printer in Residence to produce a contemporary response to the exhibition and to be an important part of the public engagement programme for the project: www.london.ac.uk/senate-house... @ies-sas.bsky.social
Oh dear! How sad.
#winniethepooh is 100 years old! As a child living in #Brixham in the 1960s/‘70s I used to frequent ‘Christopher Robin’s’ bookshop (The Harbour Bookshop) in Dartmouth. It felt very special. podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/r...
I've known and worked with Daisy Fancourt (Professor of Psychobiology and Epidemiology at UCL), for years, and she has just published a book called 'Art Cure'.
Amongst other things she demonstrates just how good 'art' is for our mental AND physical health. Engaging regularly with the arts...

To ease you into the weekend, here's a lovely film by Guy Schofield, one of two winners of this year's President’s Award.
The film is about an interactive mural commissioned by York Museums Trust for the exhibition Star Carr: Life After The Ice.
Enjoy! 😊

Fantastic walking tour of #Coventry last weekend with #DocomomoUK #ModernMovement #architecture
Only if you’re ‘measuring’ a certain way. Steiner kids don’t even start formal reading till they’re 7, and it’s not a problem (in fact, a benefit! More creativity & play). Same in Scandinavian countries. What’s more significant is the lack of contact with others that Covid restrictions caused.
Katsuhiko Masuda’s hands-on training in Japanese paper conservation in 1982 launched a legacy of cross-cultural learning – inspiring courses worldwide in mastering the techniques.

Delighted to share I’m starting a new role as #SpecialCollections & #Archives Librarian at the #UniversityofWorcester! Creating a new University archive will be both challenging & deeply rewarding. Looking forward to re/connecting with alumni old & new, hearing those stories, seeing the photos!
New to vernacular architecture and want to find out more? Why not come along to our training and study weekend at Sutton Courteney Abbey in Oxfordshire on 4-5 October 2025, and discover how we go about examining buildings? Further details at www.vag.org.uk/conferences.....

Well heaven once was Devon for me, but now I find that rural Worcestershire is pretty fantastic, too. This is a fab film, wherever your off-grid heaven might be 💚
Just the best time at #Icepops2025! Such lovely people, all with a passion for copyright! Held at the wonderful #JohnRylandsResearchInstituteandLibrary @uomlibrary.bsky.social Thank you @jsecker.bsky.social & @cbowiemorrison.bsky.social for organising it all! @copyrightliteracy.bsky.social 😊
Not the only institutions to do this over the next couple of years, I’m sure. The idea of a ‘super-University’ is nonsense, stated in a bid to try and make this sound like a good thing. Oh dear …
