Coffee maker wasn’t set up yet so we went out for breakfast down the block. We would see babies all the time around our old apartment but no one ever introduced themselves. Our dude met so many of his peers this morning!
We have moved into a NEIGHBORS building. So many people have kindly and beautifully introduced themselves to us, and of course I’m convinced we’ve made a horrible impression on all of them because we didn’t know where to find the blankets for the elevator for the first two hours of our move in.
If you’re in LA I cannot recommend REAL RocknRoll movers enough. This is our third move with them. It’s gonna be 92* in the Valley today and even though we have them packing our kitchen (and I have been so underfoot otherwise because EYE was not ready) they are making great time as always.
We’re moving tomorrow 🙃
Update: they came and put scaffolding up, did an afternoon of work outside on the 3rd, and left. We’ve heard nothing since, but they did leave the scaffolding up and this morning I noticed two pairs of men’s shorts laid across our balcony railing to dry in the sun.
They are not my husband’s shorts.
While earlier this week I did email the CEO, CFO, and entire board of trustees for the publicly traded landlord company whose shithole building we live in to yell at them about the 8 week ongoing construction in said baby’s nursery, I can admit that that was a nice community moment.
There was a 911 across the street this morning that the LAFD had to put up truck ladders for. Took the baby onto the balcony so he could watch and explained fire trucks to him. Many other parents in the building were doing the same. Couldn’t see them, but we could all hear each other.
We’re just GTFO-ing unfortunately. This is one of those publicly traded national landlords and I am exhausted. I’ve been semi-involved trying to get a tenants union going (1 of their buildings in ktown is on rent strike) but w/ 350+ units nothing is really shaking out yet.
This has been our thought, which is crazy bc we're in one of those "luxury" buildings, so everything is pretty renoed. But they also let the elevator, the entrance on our side of the building, and our garage door break and go unfixed since Christmas, so we do think they're trying to get ppl out.
The place we're moving into is categorically better on most fronts, but obviously I would prefer to simply not be moving on semi-short notice with a one year old!
Filing this whole incident under things that absolutely feel illegal, but that I probably won't be able to do shit about.
But also, no they can't come this morning, because we've also been asking for mold testing for weeks because the area smells like mildew. We've had two huge rainstorms and they never actually fixed the leak! Told them no way in hell can they start more construction until we get test results.
My email back began with, "Amazing how quickly things start moving once you know the unit will need to be ready to rent out soon!" 🙃
So we notified them officially on Saturday. Lo and behold, this morning, after 8 weeks of back and forth, we get an email telling us that the vendor is ready and if we want he can even come get started today!
So ofc we chose not to renew our lease, which was up next month. I waited until the last possible moment to tell them, even tho we got accepted in our new place weeks ago, and signed the lease last Friday. I suspected that as soon as we told them, suddenly the vendors would be avail.
8 weeks ago our building came and tore out the wall around the window in our nursery bc of a leak on the building's roof that was letting water into our apt when it rained. Then they just... left it. I've been emailing with them for weeks now and kept being told "we're waiting on our vendor".
Why mess with perfection?
Each time I wake up from an uninterrupted 8 hours of sleep or take this kid to an afternoon brunch where he is perfectly content to sit in his stroller, wave at people, and try a parade of new foods without complaint, I am more and more committed to my one and done stance.
Half of this mornings work was relearning how to spell "potpourri" but once I figured that out things really sailed on.
Well, on the plus side, I did still manage to get out of the house by 7:30 to start these rewrites. Only gonna get one scene done because [gestures broadly] but this is better than option B, which was "say fuck it, light a joint at 9am, and disassociate."
I feel the same about featuring children during the state of the union as I do about featuring children in a season of Love After Lockup.
Accomplishment: kept this one alive for a year and also I’m pretty sure he likes me, even when I’m shoving a camera in his face during prayer. He is one today.
I’m just here for Freebird.
Gotta just hold onto a project for a decade sometimes before someone appreciates it 😂
And about an hour ago I got off a zoom with my cohort from the screenwriting intensive I applied to on a whim this fall. I got in with a CW-style teen supernatural pilot and am now in rewrites for a first look and general with a major studio this summer.
I’ve decided to be better about announcing when I’ve accomplished something, like the loans above.
On Tuesday I turned in the second draft of my book proposal about working at the American Girl Place and my semi-serious belief in an American service industry/retail workforce draft.
The Petrosian skate was a very fun watch. What a shame her coach had to watch from a monitor backstage. Surely she should have been more comfortable watching from her home in Russia 🙃
She ain’t beating the Mother Gothel charges.
I don’t know these people but Annika Hocke has a great vibe.
