13.09.2025 13:08 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I didn't see the identity of the poster. That is something that makes absolutely no difference to me. The language would be the same whoever uses it. Why would a black woman using a stupid euphemism be less, or more, offensive and more, or less, available for comment than a white man doing similar?
13.09.2025 13:01 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0Because I feel that it is necessary to protest when euphemism is used to reduce the impact of language describing death caused by violence.
You would police my words if I attempted to soften the language used to describe the acts of child rapists, wouldn't you?
Because "unalived" is taking the emotion out of the act, it is sanitising the language. We are heading towards George Orwell's "Doublespeak".
13.09.2025 12:11 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0Newspapers in UK have been appalling for a good 40 years. At least The Grauniad has the decency to withdraw the comment, most wouldn't even bother as long as the article was working as click bait.
13.09.2025 12:00 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Why use the word "unalived" rather than "killed", "murdered" or "assassinated", which are perfectly useful terms already extant?

13.07.2025 22:00 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I wouldn't worry. By the time they arrive we'll have made ourselves extinct by wrecking our environment, using up our resources and wars.

08.07.2025 18:11 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0It's mainly the "Special Relationship" nonsense. I hope this will be the last we hear of it.

07.07.2025 13:31 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0Whether through taxes or insurance, the cost is still paid
7000 is less than 12000 however you spend it
Not all of those countries use tax to pay for health care
Health care is not the only item tax is spent on
Compare health costs as % of GDP, that is the important figure
Don't make perfect the enemy of good.
Cost of healthcare 2022, per person per annum, international dollars... Japan 5251, UK 5493, Ireland 6047, Finland 5676, Sweden 6438, France 6517, Australia 6596, Germany 8011, Switzerland 8049, USA 12555.
Only one of those countries bankrupts sick people.
Send it to me and I promise I'll buy all of your books.
04.07.2025 19:08 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0It's surely meaningless if it isn't racial? Surely it refers to Black people, generally defended from slaves brought from Africa. Black British people sometimes have to explain why they are not "African American" to Americans.

Not how it looks to me. From where I am it looks like you're trying really, really hard to make it as awful as possible as fast as possible.
28.06.2025 16:58 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0In the UK, if you made such a statement and were sued the onus would be on you to prove this, not on the plaintiff to prove he didn't. I suggest you'd lose badly.
28.06.2025 16:09 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0On the topic at hand, suing an entity that he believes made defamatory statements about him, and potentially making an awful lot of money by doing so, seems to me to be entirely sensible.
28.06.2025 16:04 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Very good.
I don't believe in god but from my understanding of the scriptures after going through Roman Catholic education this is pretty much what god would be saying if he exists.
I suspect she'll do what Christians constantly do with their scriptures, which is find ways to make what's written mean what they want it to.
25.06.2025 17:04 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0What happened to "Rend unto Caesar that which is Caesar's"? There are civic duties as well as duties to God. If you're employed to uphold the law of your country there is nothing unchristian about doing so.
24.06.2025 22:31 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0When Torcuil Crichton came around canvassing for votes to replace Angus MacNeil we debated that if Labour got the huge majority that was looking likely, the most effective opposition to the Labour government would come from their own back benches. It was obvious that this would happen.
24.06.2025 22:20 — 👍 4 🔁 1 💬 0 📌 0This is the kind of thing I'm talking about. Is it true? It's nebulous "we have been told" reporting and it's the Independent, which isn't exactly known for voracity nowadays.
24.06.2025 18:21 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0There's a concerted effort to discredit Starmer, which is looking the same as attacks that were made on Biden. Make all sides hate him enough that people don't come out to vote for him and our next government will be far worse for Palestine and us
Starmer at least voices opposition to Israel in Gaza
I realised that would be the reality after I posted. If Trump says anything, believe the opposite.
