DiNapoli: State Faces $34.3 Billion Cumulative Budget Gap Through State Fiscal Year 2029 The state’s Financial Plan shows a growing structural budget deficit with a cumulative three-year budget gap of $34.3 billion, as forecasted by the Division of the Budget (DOB).

New York is facing cumulative budget gaps not seen since the Global Financial Crisis, and incoming federal cuts from DC will paint an even more challenging road ahead.

Widening the gap It's been a relentless trend. By making deep cuts to federal food assistance, Congress and the Trump administration are again doubling down on policies that hurt those who are hurting

#SNAP is a vital program that helps feed the most vulnerable. Federal cuts shift the burden to the states. NY can’t replace all lost federal dollars and cuts will affect nutritional assistance and other critical services throughout the state.

Research has identified several reasons for low rates of business ownership among people of color, including lack of access to capital and other financial resources; fewer business networks & gaps in mentorship and education needed to run a business.

🔴Black New Yorkers make up 14.2% of the state’s population, but just 3.4% are business owners.

🔴Nationally, the numbers are even lower, with 2.8% out of 12.1% of the population.

DiNapoli: Audit Highlights Opportunities for Improvement of Apprenticeship Programs to Enhance Value and Reach New York state’s over 900 registered apprenticeship programs provide thousands of people with paid, hands-on training in skilled, in-demand trades, ranging from information technology to health care.
