NYC just used #RankedChoiceVoting in its city primaries.

FairVote CEO Meredith Sumpter explains how RCV delivered more choice, more competition, and better campaigns for NYC voters. 👀

I think that’s an interesting point but another angle on that race was that 97% of the money in that mayoral race was spent by the male candidates, while 3% was spent by the three women — yet Garcia came so close!

Rcv + public financing set the stage for the win

RCV is most often discussed in terms of what happens after votes are cast, and it's true that the leader in the first round usually wins. But how it shapes campaign strategies before votes are cast may be it's actual importance

RCV rewards candidates who embrace the system, share their rankings, & find common ground!

Oh yes indeed — that’s exactly it!

Exactly - RCV rewards candidates who work to find common ground & collaborate. Candidates who do well embrace the process, share their rankings, & cross endorse.

It did what RCV is designed to do — give lesser-known candidates the power to build coalitions so the candidate who spent the most money/has highest name recognition for better or wrose/is most in line with the establish and therefore has the most power doesn't always win.
