A map of the Strait of Hormuz, suggesting that barrels of oil be taken over land by sandsurfing man wearing sunglasses.

Can this be a solution?

"He says Britain’s lack of dynamism can be attributed to the "marzipan layer": the upper-middle classes who are happy with the status quo and reluctant to push innovation. A marzipan layer? I wonder if, in this analogy, Farage is the icing or the fruitcake."

... the United States was able to convince the world’s most consequential states that aligning with its foreign policy was preferable to partnering with its main rivals.

Predatory hegemony squanders these advantages in pursuit of short-term gains and ignores the long-term negative consequences."

The Predatory Hegemon Ever since Donald Trump first became U.S. president, in 2017, commentators have searched for an adequate label to describe his approach to U.S. foreign relations. Writing in these pages, the political...

One thing I've been stressing is that, if Hormuz traffic remained stopped, the monumental oil supply shock will manifest as sharp price spikes in wealthy nations that sap disposable incomes

In poorer countries, the shock will manifest as outright physical shortages.

Weirdly they're still a massive deal on the playground - my oldest (who likes playing football, not massively interested in anything else about it) just turned 8 and I think they're the only players he knows. Presumably it's from the parents.

Kids seem to follow players rather than clubs now, so you see a lot of Real Madrid, PSG etc. shirts

The main question about this purchase is ideological. There is a clear split between Reform and Conservative voters on principles. Is Springer on one side of that line or t’other, or doesn’t care.

An example of how these people have fused fantasy with reality to create a dangerous hybrid in which they no longer know what's real/unreal, nor even who they are. They also don't know where/when to stop.

In future, this will be classed as a psychiatric illness

This Bill does not touch on electoral reform however. I'm calling on the Government to establish an electoral commission to look at alternatives to First Past the Post.

People should be able to vote for the best person, not the best guess. (3/3)

I cannot wait for the insights on this! He's going to:

1. Sample some local street food.
2. Ride a train.
3. Visit a temple.
4. Not mention the pogroms that the serving Prime Minister presided over.
5. Smile at some elephants.
6. Top up his kids' private school fees.
7. Say "India is changing".

I agree, although I think there's plenty of room for a different day that encourages some form of creative dressing up.

BUT they should make the costumes at school - what an opportunity for imaginative crafting, and takes the stress off parents.

Good piece this.

"we just want there to be a viable electoral vehicle through which progressive politics can happen."

Nail on the head of why Labour is failing and Greens are in the ascendance - despite the issues people may have with the Greens' broader policy platform.

Conservative MP stands up and says that the USA is our most important ally, so why aren't we doing exactly what they want?

This is where the Conservative Party is.
