"What does it say about the moonlight?"
—The moonlight?
"Mm-hm."
—It's very bright, isn't it?
"It's so bright, you can even read your guidebook by it."

And . . . Unsurprisingly, it's become a GUYS AND DOLLS (1955) summer (I watch it more than I log it), but . . . then again . . . it's always GUYS AND DOLLS season for me.

And without a doubt, I have been watching and rewatching more silent films this summer than I have throughout the year. This is not a complaint, it's a compliment to silent films, encouraging all film fans to incorporate silent films regularly into your film watching routine!

LITTLE RICHARD: THE KING AND QUEEN OF ROCK 'N' ROLL (2023)
Heartbreaking and entertaining. I watched this when it first aired, and I still love this portrait of his talent, life, journey.
"He had to stand up for his self, because of the music industry . . . They just never gave him his flowers."
If it has been a while since you have watched the #AMERICANMASTERSPBS documentary LITTLE RICHARD: THE KING AND QUEEN OF ROCK 'N' ROLL (2023) or if you've not seen it. Make it a priority.
"No. It's not a business to me. I never tried to make a business of making people happy." is one of my favorite Baker quotes.

The duo debuted in NY in 1933, performing with big bands of the era—from Chick Webb to Louis Armstrong—later touring Europe along with the Cotton Club Revue, 1937.
Born in Matanzas, Cuba, René Rivero Guillén began his dancing career with his sister (much like the Astaires) before partnering w/ fellow Cuban dancer Ramona Ajón, expanding their signature style from Cuba to the US.

So, appreciation post for the Afro-Cuban duo, René Rivero Guillen and Ramona Ajón, aka René and Estela!
