Wait until they declare it a 'sovereign base territory' and use it for rendition flights to God knows where, where those flights, despite physically originating in the continental USA, are out of reach of the US courts. There's always a reason for these things.

AOC should be a shoo-in for next year then, eh? Sorry Donny.

In the early 90s I lived within walking distance of both WN and OC but because I’d given up by then, I didn’t bother visiting either. I pretty much missed the entire demise of loco hauled services on two BR regions, the last of two of my favourite classes (50 and 87) and the last heydays of OC. 😔

I’m like this, too. Before long journeys, especially flights, I renew subscriptions and download hours of movies and box sets, but I always end up with my Kindle and music, or a Monkey Cage podcast and the view out the window. I know I’m like this but I can’t help myself 🤷🏻♂️

Can you imagine if future generations found a fossilised trail of this in the rock? Step, step, step, slide... step, step, step, slide... Penny to a pound it wouldn't be an otter in the artist's impression of the animal - it would be a cross between a small cat and blue whale 😂

#RAF #Tornado ZA410 had a chequered history. After suffering body damage, it was moved to Boscombe Down and used for structural tests until it was scrapped in 2017.

Honestly, I don't know. I'm as good as my ability to google, and the fine work of those who have gone before me, vaguely sense-checked by geometry teachings from 40 years ago 😁

Ah, see now, for me at least, I believe it does. The centre of a regular shape - a square or a circle - is the point furthest from the edge, which is clearly the middle. More difficult on an irregular shape but it would still be furthest away from the edge. Rotational symmetry is a another matter!

For all of Wikipedia's greatness, I would trust the OS first, because of the provenance of the underlying source data. In truth, there's probably so many ways to measure 'centre of the UK', you could call any of them 'right' if you select the correct criteria.

Ha - it would appear we are both wrong 😂
According to the Ordinance Survey, the furthest point from the coast in the United Kingdom is Church Flatts Farm, near Coton in the Elms, Derbyshire. This location is approximately 70 miles (113 km) from the nearest coastline.

The place furthest from the coast in any direction is Aston Clinton, near Aylesbury in Buckinghamshire, so one could argue that that is the 'centre of Great Britain'.

If you were raised in the 70s and 80s, it goes against the established order of things. It’s like when 87002 ran into Paddington. It’s not right. 🤯🫣

One of my favourite aircraft is the #Airbus #A400M. I love this early morning take-off from 2015, with visible prop vortices being squeezed out of the damp air.

I now have a mental image of the front facade of Buck House folding down, and the Victoria memorial slowly corkscrewing into the road, as an A400M rolls out and lines up for takeoff 😂

I am the world's largest airliner, the super jumbo.
They say that i'm an inefficient white elephant and that my days are numbered.
At least the passengers and crew love me. I'm still the most comfortable airliner with the quietest cabin after all :)
