LIM Domain Proteins link molecular and global tension by recognizing strained actin in adhesions Mechanotransduction is fundamental to cell signaling and depends on force-sensitive adhesion proteins. How these proteins differentiate and integrate their responses to tension remains an open questio...

Our new preprint is out! Led by @stefanosala89.bsky.social sky.social we investigate the difference between molecular tension sensing and global tension on the focal adhesion. Follow along for a thread of our findings:

Imaging neurons quickly for 3min typically won't give you huge cell-wide cytoskeletal events, but you do get to capture fun little tugs and loops in the soma and neurites (as well as whatever the hell is going on in the bottom right).

Happy #FlourescenceFriday!

Myosin 2 – A general contractor for the cytoskeleton Cells derive their shape, and in turn much of their behavior, from the organization of the cytoskeleton. While a myriad of proteins contribute to the …

Did you wake up this morning and think "Huh, I'd love to learn more about how myosin 2 filaments assemble and their contribution to cell architecture and function"? What a coincidence, I've got just the review for you.

Our PhD student Louis Romette is optimizing long-term live-cell imaging. He just casually dropped this 65-hour movie of a growing neuron (div 3 to 6) with knocked-in actin πŸ”₯πŸ•ΆοΈ #realtimemicroscopy

For this #FluorescenceFriday I share another example of the possibilities of making art with imageJ processing. This is a 3 day long time-lapse of a growing slime mold, with 15 min growth waves color coded.
the white things are oat flakes. I'll share the original video in comments

I do most of my troubleshooting imaging with NBM/B27 but if I need good clear imaging I would use NEUMO/SOS. I'll have to check but I believe the longest I did with that media was overnight and it was definitely reduced autofluorescence. Relatively new, now relatively old I guess.

Following since I've just been informed NEUMO/SOS is discontinued 😧
