So yes I think it’s a use of furry aesthetics without involvement in the culture but doesn’t bother me anymore than an artist that would isolate aesthetic details of Tom of Finland drawings or something. I don’t think Gao himself is ignorant to the culture I think it’s just not what he wants to make

It feels like it’s definitely coming from outside the « furry community » but interested in fursuit heads as aesthetic objects rather than cultural ones, the focus on texture and distortion and the depictions of fursuit heads isolated without any intended cultural context
