I agree, I think a lot of the difficulties are pretty overblown…. to be honest the biggest difficulties of kanji are more names and the explosion of homophones that come about in kanji compounds. But the homophone problem is made much worse with any other writing system.

ironically a Chinese language YouTuber made a convincing argument that the main political reason Japan still uses Kanji but Korea and Vietnam both abandoned Chinese characters

The real problem is the homophones from all the Chinese loanwords lol

Yeah I wouldn’t be surprised if most people forgot how to write non common kanji given most people are used to phone and computer input

i have to admit i like kanji even tho they are a huge pain. Once you learn enough of them that you can start to guess both the pronunciation and meaning of a new kanji from the radicals it actually feels kinda magical
