Someone should make a film about a mad king, say in the late 18th century, whose arbitrary rule and foolish decision-making inspired people in one of his colonies to create a political system in which power would be distributed more widely so as to avoid the harms of such mercurial policy making.

Controversial military-themed brewery shuts its doors after a year in Norfolk, citing “woke mob” Financial filings show the brewery was struggling financially before it relocated and had failed to start turning a profit after opening in Norfolk.

They made a homophobic, anti-mask, misogynist the face of their company and then act like victims when decent people decided not to buy their vetbro beer. The punchline: the CEO of Armed Forces Brewing never served. It’s a marketing ploy. $300K from Youngkin wasted. www.whro.org/business-gro...

The Supreme Court decision should have been 9-0. The fact it was 5-4 reveals how utterly compromised the bench is in favor of right-wing authoritarianism.

It took the Nazis one month, three weeks, two days, eight hours, and 40 minutes to dismantle a constitutional republic.

When the fire starts to burn, every good person better be ready to man a post with a bucket of water if you want to stop it from raging out of control.

I’m pretty sure what was the intended word. Not hard to guess, given the context. The word in the text could indeed prove very useful in OTHER contexts. It can join the club of other *~heads*. Bedhead, sleepyhead, blockhead, fathead, Deadhead (a close relative! 🤣).

Interesting idea. Can you elaborate a little bit more on the concept of a “ubiquitous language” and what it entails?

11.02.2025 08:47 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

In theory ubiquitous language is a nice idea. Having special words in local contexts.

In reality, an organization has a global namespace where words from different contexts are used together

We can't ignore that otherwise we risk ncreasing ambiguity on a global level.

At least a little bit, half an hour to an hour, almost every day. For German, a usually Deutschland Funk political talk show, or podcast such as Alles Gesagt. For French, France culture, France inter, RFI.

With that being said, I am terrified for what’s to come since I so happen to live in the first city that is expected to be raided by ICE. This has been the most exhausting 19 days EVER.

Thanks! Yeah, I can see that as an advantage. I guess I haven’t experienced it as an advantage because I don’t very often translanguage when writing. That’s probably a better, more interesting question in my case. Why don’t I?

Yes! What’s going on with that? I’m not sure I understand the advantage, find it slightly annoying. Help me understand.
