Paramount Wins Warner Bros. What’s Next? Plus: A shocking assignment!

Paramount may be a better or worse owner of WB than Netflix. One thing that's certain: the process by which Paramount gained control of WB is grotesque and un-American. www.thebulwark.com/p/paramount-...

Netflix is probably marginally less bad but only if you believe they’ll continue releasing movies in theaters. If I’m a regulator I’m extracting a guarantee of some sort that they’ll continue to do so.

I was kind of worried @timmiller.bsky.social was going to have to do this alone, bad for his mental health. Thankfully @sarahlongwell25.bsky.social is here to share the load. open.substack.com/live-stream/...

funny convo with @sonnybunch.bsky.social and @timmiller.bsky.social about dumbass's speech.

i would offer two extra notes to the lads:

β€”the backlight is high and centredβ€”trump saw dante spinotti do that constantly on the "melania" set.

β€”weekend watch: "strip law" on netflix.

How a Canadian Cult Hit Can Help Us Think About Creativity Plus: An interview with the directors of a harrowing Oscar-nominated documentary.

Hey you know what I really enjoyed? NIRVANNA THE BAND THE SHOW THE MOVIE. The thing I enjoyed the most about it? It manages to be both pastiche and referential and completely unique and deeply heartfelt. Good movie! www.thebulwark.com/p/how-a-cana...

Oscar-Nominated Doc Exposes Alabama's Brutal Prisons 'The Alabama Solution' directors Andrew Jarecki and Charlotte Kaufman on scandalous prison conditions.

The Oscar-nominated THE ALABAMA SOLUTION is a harrowing doc. You don't have to be an ardent prison reformerβ€”I'm notβ€”to be horrified by what it shows. I talked to directors Andrew Jarecki and Charlotte Kaufman about how they got their incredible footage. www.thebulwark.com/p/oscar-nomi...

A Day, and a Nation, at the Kennedy Center From Tchaikovsky to redneck humor: the arts in Trump’s America.

"America is a land of contrasts, and those contrasts were on full display this Friday. One thing both audiences shared, however, was an appreciation for the Kennedy Center itself." There was no reason we had to lose that. ICYMI @sonnybunch.bsky.social: lnk.thebulwark.com/3Ob3i5h

β€˜Crime 101’ Review Trying a little too hard to be β€˜Heat.’

"'Crime 101' is one of those oddly paced movies that either needed to be twenty minutes shorter and lean into the high-concept, elevator-pitch nature of the idea or be twenty minutes longer." Good enough; but it could have been more.

I'm working my way through the series now, which I enjoy even as it falls into some of the traps of TV shows of this nature. (There are a LOT of serial killers in the DMV/West Virginia area, apparently!)

β€˜Crime 101’ Review Trying a little too hard to be β€˜Heat.’

CRIME 101 is one of those weirdly paced films that’s either 20 minutes too long or 20 minutes too short. It’s not quite zippy enough for a high-concept thriller but it’s too truncated to be a proper HEAT-style epic. Some great car chases though! www.thebulwark.com/p/crime-101-...
