I recently discovered the OneFootball app which has been streaming the AFC Women’s Asian Cup. It’s been fun watching some soccer when I get up before heading to work.

Yes, I read Vol #1 and enjoyed it. I'm recently bought Vol #2 as part of the Simon and Schuster e-book sale and want to read that one, especially since Commander Thelin from TAS has a story in that book and I want to read more about that character.

Thanks for the kind words. I read Volume #1 - Infinity's Prism and it's pretty good. It's a bit like Marvel's "What If ...?" show.

While I don't think it's related to TNG's "Parallels" episode, there is the 3-volume "Star Trek: Myriad Universes" anthology books which contain short stories about alternate versions of various Trek characters who led very different lives compared to what we saw on screen.

Nice pick. That's one of earlier and better episodes which focused on parallel universes (it even has that word in the episode title πŸ˜‰).

#ParallelTreks Day 9: Dimension, Lower Decks' "The Stars at Night"

As part of the starship race between the Cerritos and the Aledo, each had to stop at Ockmenic 9, a Brigadoon-type planet which phased into normal space for 2 hours per year.

That is a deep cut in the novel. One of the things I like to find when reading a Trek novel are those references to past Trek episodes. It's a bit of a treasure hunt.

Yes, I wouldn't mind having a Trek series focus on that era as well the eras between TNG & PIC and after PIC (e.g. "Legacy"). The Trek novels did have a "Lost Era" series which took place between TOS and TNG.

Thanks. Yes, I think that law was superceded by other explanations by then, e.g. TNG's "The Chase".

#ParallelTreks Day 8: Culture - Ardana, TOS' "The Cloud Minders"

Ardana had two vastly different cultures which paralleled each other. The Troglytes were miners who lived on the planet's surface while the City-dwellers lived in more luxury in cities in the sky.

Star Trek eBook Deals

Just a reminder that Simon & Schuster's monthly Trek e-book sale for March is available (at least in the US). There are lots of e-books from different Trek series on this month's list. Thanks.πŸ“šπŸ––

Yes, that's also one of my favorite aspects of ENT - its focus on giving more background about those aliens, especially the Andorians and the Tellarites whom we only met briefly on previous shows.

Yes, I liked how ENT spend time talking about the Andorians, as represented by Comb's Shran. We only had snippets about them in previous Trek shows.

Yes, it does look like that!

Yes, between bringing back the Romulans, giving more focus on the Andorians and seeing the beginnings of what will be the Federation, those 3 episodes were one of my favorite mini-arcs from Season 4.

#ParallelTreks Day 6: History - TOS' Hodgkin's Law of Parallel Planetary Development

According to this theory, similar planets w/ similar environments develop in a similar way over time. This was an in-universe explanation why we saw the same Earth sets.πŸ––πŸ˜ƒ

Nice pick. I liked the Thelin character and would have wanted to see him again. As a fellow fan already mentioned, at least he returned in one of the "Myriad Universes" books.

#ParallelTreks Day 4: Ship - TAS "The Practical Joker"

The practical joker, which was the Enterprise computer affected by an energy field, created a balloon-like copy of the Enterprise to fool the Romulans who were chasing them.

#ParallelTreks Day 3: Ship - Romulan drone ship, ENT's "Babel One"/"United"/"The Aenar"

Captain Archer & the NX-01 crew encounter a Romulan drone ship which could disguise itself as other types of ships such as Andorian & Tellarite ships as well as the NX-01.

An excellent topic for discussion. I look forward to reading everyone's responses.

And I like the design of March's calendar prompts, that's one of my favorite Data/Geordi's Powerpoint templates on TNG πŸ˜‰
