The caterpillar’s body is covered in dense tufts of long, hairlike setae in three striking colors: bright orange tufts along the midsection, pure white tufts at intervals, and jet-black tufts throughout. The head is mostly black with long white hairs projecting outward, creating a halo-like fringe. Its legs are barely visible under the thick fur, and the fine texture of each hair is crisp in detail, some slightly curved or bent. The background is softly blurred, keeping focus on the vibrant patterns and textures of the caterpillar’s body.

Rescued this Euchaetes egle, the milkweed tussock moth caterpillar, from a busy road and gave it a safer perch for a photo on a block of wood. Those black, white, and orange tufts are a warning to predators.

I start with thick felt for building some 3D structures. The moss is stitched in French knot technique. The more I use colour shades and irregularity, the more it looks naturally.

Finished moss in different green shades with some sporophytes. They are made with green and brown glass beads on extremely thin green wire.
