A lot of lives about to be lost with no pretenses other than to deliver oil. Not even a supposed fight for freedom

Irrespective of a lot of things in this whole shit show, the fact that American soldiers are likely going to lose their lives in order to explicitly protect oil shipments is wild...

People are right when they say the only winner in this war is Russia. This was against Iran, as much as it is detestable, would have been a lot easier to win if the Americans had given Ukraine the weapons to beat the Russians. Now the Russians are helping Iran and the US is helping Russia

Aaron Gunn: If the federal government truly believes in the private property rights of Canadians, they should probably stop opening every public meeting by proclaiming the gathering on the “unceded territory” of this or that First Nation.
Doing so reinforces the radical and dangerous legal concept that most Canadians live on “stolen land”. This is Canada. One country. For all Canadians. 𝗠𝗣 𝗰𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗵𝗲𝘀 𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗮𝗿𝗺𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗻𝗼𝘄𝗹𝗲𝗱𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀

Chiefs from four First Nations communities are urging the public to please approach Aaron Gunn with no caution whatsoever. He is completely harmless, though momentarily unsettled by the alarming possibility that someone might acknowledge the land before a meeting.
Yesterday on social media, the MP appeared to crash out and demand to speak to the manager of land acknowledgements, a position that observers confirm does not exist.
Chiefs whose territories make up the riding had two words for the MP - Chillax, Bud.
Land acknowledgements have never seized private property, cancelled a mortgage, repossessed a pickup truck, or altered a single title deed anywhere in Canada.
They are simply people recognizing the history of the place where they are standing.
No one is going anywhere. Canada will survive the brief moment of honesty.
Until then, Chiefs across the region continue to reassure the public that land acknowledgements have not, to date, resulted in any land back.

Conservative MP for Powell River–North Island, Aaron Gunn, is, uh, well he’s being trolled a bit for his condemnation of land acknowledgements yesterday. Message from K’omoks, Klahoose, Homalco & Tla’amin Nations: “Chillax, bud.” #bcpoli

I understand the idea that businesses don't like this operation but do they think their properties will be more secure if we don't provide this space?

We have all the technologies available to make a relatively quick transition to clean energy to make what's happening in the Strait of Hormuz irrelevant from an energy perspective but countries are beholden to fossil fuel energy companies and lack any kind of ambition.

Very rarely does anyone from the CTF really know what they are talking about. I can never understand why they get so much media play other than 'tax bad, spending bad' is an easy sound bite

I don't like this but I think there are a lot of people banking on the Conservatives having a more electable leader and also the NDP, particularly Eby, has worn out its welcome with a lot of people.

Geez, if the USA ever wants standing in the world again, many people need to go to jail and some of them need to experience what Romanians did to the Ceausescus...

As a followup, it's notable that many of the accounts who insist Canada's economic future will collapse as a result of the Cowichan court ruling don't have similar panicked memes based on activities of Alberta separatists despite results like these www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...

For sure, they need to do the due diligence - so does the buyer. Lending to people leasing land on-reserve is not uncommon and there are many processes in place to reduce risks.

Well that's not true. It does make sense to lend when there are longer term leases in place. It doesn't make sense when a 50 year lease only has 2 years left in it

It would be nice if the story gave some context for First Nation land designation and leasing and how First Nations are not allowed to sell reserve land. Also, how these people were able to get mortgages on potentially expiring leases is pretty wild. People did not do their due diligence

The financial feasibility of a car share program is slim and these programs need help from the municipality and development community to have any chance of success in a place like Kamloops. Financial viability is dependent on having a fleet of 10 cars that are constantly being used.

City supportive policies such as clear policies directing developers to pay for cars for the car share programs, providing good free parking for car share fleets, and even donating cars from the City fleet would help get this off the ground.

As someone who did a lot of work to try to get a car share going years ago, it's great that the City is considering this. When we tried previously, Kamloops didn't have the density anywhere to make it work but with all the dev't on the North Shore and downtown, it might be feasible.

We need BOTH reduced speed limits AND traffic calming throughout the City. We didn't need a pilot testing two neighbourholds - just get it done and the focus on traffic calming to reinforce the speed limits

Mr. Eliason, who advocates allowing single-stair construction for small multifamily buildings as a solution to the housing crisis, said he learned how common the design was outside the United States while working in Germany in 2019.

After seeing an 11-story tower his firm at the time had designed, Mr. Eliason recalled, he turned to his boss and said: "Something is wrong here. Where's your other stair?"

"He's looking at me, and said: 'What are you talking about? If there was another stair, there wouldn't be any room for the homes'"

Single-stair gets the New York Times treatment. @holz-bau.bsky.social reminds us why they call the last line the kicker: www.nytimes.com/2026/03/04/b... (gift link)

Construction sign showing bike lane closed

Either the City views a bike lane as any street where a bicycle has been painted on it or they just closed a bike lane that should exist but never has on St. Paul Street

Horrifying doesn't even begin to cover it. This is, legally and practically, torture. They will deny HRT even to those who can no longer produce their own sex hormones, which can and will have dire medical consequences. They will drive people to suicide.
