It’s pretty relevant to what is being discussed here. The “unlawful orders” were to continue the deployment with a bunch of dying sailors. For the sole purpose of maintaining hegemony around the South China Sea. Not garnering sympathy here. This was a revealing moment of the war machine.

I’m citing a recent example of “defying orders” and what happens to those who do so. It’s foolish to rely on service members to “do the right thing”.

This was, of course, during Trumps first term. Those sailors got to learn just how expendable they are to their government. Should have been a wake up call for everyone in the military, but alas, here we are.

Cpt. Crozier of the “Covid cruise” comes to mind. Look what happened to him. He went around the chain of command to get help for his sailors who were suffering from a COVID outbreak on the ship. Navy ripped him a new one and he lost his position. The SECNAV at the time lectured the entire crew.
