The Netherlands has also filed its declaration of intervention in South Africa v. Israel (the Gaza genocide case).

Its observations will focus on forced displacement, children, starvation, and deliberate withholding of humanitarian aid.

The UK's legal position on the use of its bases in the Middle East is solid with one glaring hole: The US cannot act in collective self-defence with the Gulf States. It is the aggressor. Ergo the UK cannot assist the US in collective self-defence.

And: does the answer to the previous question change if one adds a very pedantic "[sic]" after "Generi"?

Hostis Humani Generi: Piracy, Terrorism and a New International Law By Douglas R. Burgess Jr., Published on 04/01/06

International law peeps: is it ever ethical to cite Douglas Burgess's article "Hostis Humani Generi: Piracy, Terrorism and a New International Law" (or, "why you can drone strike random Palestinians because of Cicero", per @pagingdrpaige.bsky.social) in one's writing?

at some point international lawyers need to stop pointing out that this is illegal (of course it is) and start asking if the US still considers the UN Charter to be valid law

Blunders behoeven nazorg, maar onze hoogste bestuurders peren ’m gewoon Blunderen is menselijk, ik blunder ook geregeld. Maar ik peer ’m dan tenminste niet meteen zoals ons college van bestuur.

“Onze hoogste bestuurders blunderden. Dat is menselijk, ik blunder ook geregeld. Maar ik peer ’m dan niet meteen, zoals dit college van bestuur in zijn volledigheid nu wél doet."

Het academisch jaar is weer van start, net als @remcobreuker.bsky.social 🔥🔥🔥

"we need a specific term for the state at the centre of the Grossraum, but "empire" has too many negative connotations so instead we should use "Reich" which has no negative connotations at all" is an all-time favourite

A colleague started quoting random passages from the Glossarium to me and honestly Schmitt had some peculiar sense of humour

Carl Schmitt's theory of war is really funny because it amounts to "liberalism leads to moralism which leads to total war in an attempt to outlaw war - unlike my theory of 'invading other countries just because you want to' which has definitely never led to total war or atrocities"

So far your book is mainly complicating my argument! (And tempting me in the way of "oh I should read more instead of just writing, perhaps I'll add yet another footnote at some point!")

Opinion | The Only Real Solution to the A.I. College Cheating Crisis Since A.I. has made the mental effort of writing and problem solving optional, universities need new ways to require the work needed for learning.

In Opinion

In the 1,000 days since ChatGPT’s release, it has disrupted the university approach to learning, meant to stop students from relying on A.I. “We, of course, do not want our students to fail, but we don’t want them to fail to learn, either,” Clay Shirkey, a vice provost at NYU, writes.
