Stripping an MTH bipolar bc I have historically probable plans.
Say hello to the NYC NS-1 class electric, or 'N' motor.
Does anyone by any chance know of a small DC motor above 17000rpm? Or maybe a 2:1 gearbox I could put inline? My S motor still cant pass 60mph top speed and I really wanted her to do 90.

That helper was only needed for the grades.

Forgot to post this from Friday. @prrshepherd.bsky.social's LMS Garrett pulling all my goods stock. The 1377 class was just following for fun.

A bit more work on the NYC&HR express milk reefer. Built up the doors and sides, and added the roof ends. Next is the end railings, roof hatches, and side vents.

I dont like messing with brake rigging bc its hardly visible while on a layout.

28.07.2025 12:37 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Then I rechipped her with a new decoder, and there was no change to speed. If anything, she was a bit slower. The old motor was already ~13000rpm. Oops...
So now, Ive put a 17000rpm motor in her which should get me ~60mph. Still slower than Id like but I cant find a faster motor. (2)
An update for the S-1 so far.
This is now the 2nd decoder and 3rd motor. First time round, she ran fine except for being slow. I didnt have a spec on motor so I thought maybe it was just slow.
Then I remotored it with a NWSL 12500rpm one. Managed to trip the protection on the decoder (somehow). (1)

A Mantua clearance car stripped of lettering with trussrods replaced with monofilament.
NYC&HR S-1 electric with a new 17000rpm iron core motor from HighLevel. Been trying to get her to run closer to realistic speeds but those tiny drivers are killer on trackspeed. Id need upwards of 20000rpm to get even close to 80mph.
A bit of a variety today. Didnt get much done until Sunday night.
Gas piping on my last two 60' coaches, numbers on the BlueLine boxcar, a Mantua clearance car I didnt know existed, and I finally put a 17000rpm motor in the S-1 so she might be able to do 60mph now.
Nice tits
