Research framed only by monistic, hedonistic perspectives risks harmful interventions and oversimplifies animal interests. We need pluralistic views for sound science—welfare matters, but so do biodiversity, ecosystems, and cultural values.

Important read by Sandler & Palmer on #wildanimalwelfare ethics. While I value understanding wild animal welfare, I’m troubled by strands of the movement that carry a colonialist logic—claiming to know what’s “best” for wild animals and intervening on their behalf.
