XC MTB racing is an extremely hard and humbling discipline. That said, Van der Poel's performance at Nove Mesto World Cup is indefensible. Two crashes on start loop, both his fault, one massive, reminiscent of 2021 Olympics disaster. I love that he races MTB, but he's got to take it more seriously.

It's always hard to tell if Ineos are hammering on the front because they have a plan or if they are just doing it out of old habit.
