This fall I will be teaching an intro macroeconomics course for historians! I have done this a few semesters in a row and typically mix intro macro concepts with Econ history readings. It is time for an update. Can you recommend any (of your?) papers that might be a good fit? Thanks!

Out of curiosity: is this an official colab?
You should also specify the source material you are using for the course (textbook, chapter) and could even upload your slides for further context. But even then the results are almost never ready to use. But very often they are a very solid foundation that just need a few tweaks. (2/2)

It helps to be very specific in the prompt what you expect and what the context is (e.g., university, bachelor level, economics students...). (1/2)

10.04.2025 06:41 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 06/ ๐ Advice for educators II:
ChatGPT can act as a learning aid, but not a replacement for textbooks or lectures. Educators can use ChatGPT to refine their problem statements for easier comprehension. More advice in the discussion section of the paper.
5/ ๐Advice for educators I:
Educators can recommend newer models of ChatGPT to students, but have to teach them how to use it (e.g., how to prompt and raising awareness for incorrect output). Students should use ChatGPT in a way that makes them think about the problem before consulting ChatGPT.
4/ ๐ The bad news:
Explanations tend to be narrow or sometimes overly simplified, missing a holistic view. Examples provided by ChatGPT are often poor. And most importantly, ChatGPT does still make mistakes and presents these will full confidence. Students will often fail to identify these errors.
3/ ๐ The good news:
Newer ChatGPT models perform very well on both tasks. Theyโre accurate and accessibleโmaking them a solid support tool for students.
2/ โWe evaluated ChatGPT models on two common tasks relevant in introductory economics courses:
1.) Explaining core economic concepts
2.) Answering multiple-choice questions
New Research ๐จ
Can ChatGPT serve as an economics tutor? We put it to the test across multiple models (GPT-3.5, GPT-4o, and o1preview).

TL;DR: It is good, but not perfect.
