I get to work with incredible students and collaborators! Some recent projects include…
I had a fun detour this morning doing a 5-minute live segment on AI education classrooms on our local news. It was a nice chat with Washington state Superintendent Chris Reykdal @chrisreykdal.bsky.social. Thanks to reporter Abby Acone for the invite! youtu.be/0mBJAlL_Vxo?...

25.07.2025 15:21 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Let’s keep exploring ways to empower end users so that they can make adjustments to their devices/apps and also find ways to help designers and developers create technology that is made to be adaptable.
25.07.2025 15:21 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0The example I can share is WCAG’s colour contrast success criteria. We always hear people say that you need to meet a minimum contrast to pass accessibility. But for some people high contrast is not comfortable for them to use and they want a lower contrast design.
25.07.2025 15:21 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0This work also contributes to a larger conversation on the need for customisation and personalisation in accessible design to meet people’s access needs!
We need more adaptable technology design to address access friction!
Also, accessibility resources need to highlight that frictions can exist.
It’s great when apps offer dark mode or high contrast mode, or even other types of UI colour adjustments, but how bad is it when these modes are unavailable or have been poorly implemented?
We found some very compelling insights that show it can be more than an inconvenience! Please read our paper.
We have a new paper coming out “Understanding the Experiences of People With and Without Vision Impairments When Using Mobile User Interface Alternative Color Modes”

My IP address has been blocked by the ACM so I can’t access the digital library… I wasn’t even doing anything different to usual. Has this happened to anybody else?
13.05.2025 15:56 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I always tell this to my research assistants: if you use AI to summarize and write for you, you don't need to be my assistant. You don't need to do research at all.
Research should be selfish: *you* (not a machine) learn how to read, write, innovate, and dream. Otherwise, what is the point?
