South Korea's Lee cites 'inseparable' relationship with Japan in first summit South Korea's new President Lee Jae Myung and Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba vowed to deepen a relationship prized by Washington and closely watched by China and North Korea, as the pair met for their first summit.

Some Asia experts were worried that Lee as a liberal might dampen the improved ties between SK and Japan under Yoon.

So far Lee has proven them wrong. He told Ishiba that the two nations are "inseparable" like "neighbours who share a front yard."

By my count, reductions in US troops in Korea occur every 13-15 years. We are currently in, or maybe even past, that window. This need not be a big deal IF it were handled and messaged the right way. The Trump administration will certainly not handle it or message it the right way.
