I think we should crowdfund a great big bouncy castle version of Merrye Olde Englande, call it Cunty Island, complete with inflatable red phone boxes ‘n’ shit, then ship all of these cunts onto it and push it out into the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Then sink it.

19.11.2025 23:47 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0Added to which, many of them know they are cunts, and are proud that they are. And if you’re not a cunt just like them, you’re automatically a ‘lefty woke bedwetter’. Because, in their heads, better to be a cunt than, well, just about any other kind of person.
19.11.2025 20:55 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I recognise that subdivision. However, I think the ‘bigger picture’ on Reform cunts is that, whether they be ‘sincere cunts’ or ‘opportunist counts’, they are all, unquestionably, ‘fucking cunts’.

It seems only right to share one of my male first-person stories - so here is Tea with Mrs. Hindley. www.patreon.com/posts/134293...
I’d say that I don’t limit this to my male protagonists. Everyone is capable of projecting a persona that masks their real selves., then failing to maintain the pretence.

One way or another: being found out. They work hard to conceal, but the cracks show eventually.
Take care Oli!

I don’t find a lot of mileage in exploring overt toxic masculinity. It would almost be too obvious. So I guess I tend to combine the latter two - subvert *and* weaponise.
Yes! I love that!
19.11.2025 19:28 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0It’s surprised me how frequently this is how my stories have emerged. Not always by design.
19.11.2025 19:24 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Very true. I think there’s value in subverting gender expectation. That doesn’t mean I’m ’down on men’, it’s just that it’s men in society who most often project a version of themselves that is designed to seem invulnerable, which in my experience makes them not believable and therefore unreliable.

I would say: trust. Many of my stories have unreliable narrators of one sort or another. There is always something delicious about whipping the rug out from the reader’s feet, after playing on their expectations.
I tend to think that it’s acceptable to explore what makes a man into a monster, while remembering that to explore and explain is never to excuse.
19.11.2025 19:16 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Thanks - it’s the super-ordinary, behind closed doors, everyday life horror that fascinates me.

Jez, 60, Aberdeen - kitchen sink horror - if I think about it, the men in my stories are probably best described as failures of one sort or another. While I explore male vulnerability, I don’t tend to do so from a sympathetic perspective. These failures are often monsters.
Get in touch with Christie anyway, I’m sure she’d happily play host at some point.
