I’m in Aberdeen. Which means hiding under an electrically heated blanket until April.

Oh they do though, don’t they? I think we should crowdfund a great big bouncy castle version of Merrye Olde Englande, call it Cunty Island, complete with inflatable red phone boxes ‘n’ shit, then ship all of these cunts onto it and push it out into the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Then sink it.

I suspect AI at play behind @melissaguerts, but against my better judgment, I like what they’re doing. This track has quite the New Order feel to it. youtu.be/KakaYM_Q-OE?...

Added to which, many of them know they are cunts, and are proud that they are. And if you’re not a cunt just like them, you’re automatically a ‘lefty woke bedwetter’. Because, in their heads, better to be a cunt than, well, just about any other kind of person.

I recognise that subdivision. However, I think the ‘bigger picture’ on Reform cunts is that, whether they be ‘sincere cunts’ or ‘opportunist counts’, they are all, unquestionably, ‘fucking cunts’.

It seems only right to share one of my male first-person stories - so here is Tea with Mrs. Hindley. www.patreon.com/posts/134293...

I’d say that I don’t limit this to my male protagonists. Everyone is capable of projecting a persona that masks their real selves., then failing to maintain the pretence.

One way or another: being found out. They work hard to conceal, but the cracks show eventually.

I don’t find a lot of mileage in exploring overt toxic masculinity. It would almost be too obvious. So I guess I tend to combine the latter two - subvert *and* weaponise.

Yes! I love that!

It’s surprised me how frequently this is how my stories have emerged. Not always by design.

Very true. I think there’s value in subverting gender expectation. That doesn’t mean I’m ’down on men’, it’s just that it’s men in society who most often project a version of themselves that is designed to seem invulnerable, which in my experience makes them not believable and therefore unreliable.

I would say: trust. Many of my stories have unreliable narrators of one sort or another. There is always something delicious about whipping the rug out from the reader’s feet, after playing on their expectations.

I tend to think that it’s acceptable to explore what makes a man into a monster, while remembering that to explore and explain is never to excuse.

Thanks - it’s the super-ordinary, behind closed doors, everyday life horror that fascinates me.

Jez, 60, Aberdeen - kitchen sink horror - if I think about it, the men in my stories are probably best described as failures of one sort or another. While I explore male vulnerability, I don’t tend to do so from a sympathetic perspective. These failures are often monsters.

Get in touch with Christie anyway, I’m sure she’d happily play host at some point.

#writesky #writingcommunity have you begun planning your Yuletide avoidance writing tasks yet? I find the holiday period is a good chance to direct lots of energy towards my writing projects, knowing that most of the rest of the Western World is spending time getting fat and poor and into arguments.

I’m about to add the word ‘Christmas’ to my list of muted words and tags. I’m a childless Atheist. Throughout the festive period you’ll find me petting cats and walking on a beach. Avoidance is possible. Try it.

It’s gotten to the stage where if you express anything vaguely positive you risk being accused of VS. I prefer to flip it, whereby those pointing out somebody’s VS are in fact in the throes of being caught out by the Great Arsehole Detector.
