One thing I've noticed on the far right is that if an immigrant commits a crime, they blame that immigrant's culture. But if a white American overdoses on a drug, they blame the immigrants' culture.

Yesterday, the Deportation Data Project posted new FOIA data on ICE arrests through October 15 and it’s staggering how much it instantly disproves every claim the Trump admin has made about targeting “criminals” during its splashy arrest operations.

Here’s arrests in Illinois since April.

I think they all have a romanticized vision of America’s founding. It’s a mixed bag. They have elements of truth, but reshape it to create a mythological past they want to reclaim.

One of my frustrations with much of the immigration discourse in evangelicalism is that so much of it is couched in abstractions, policy, ideals, without paying attention to the actual people who are being argued about.

We need to re-humanize the discourse.

More often than not, it’s not xenophobia—fear of the foreigner.

It’s xenomisia—hatred of the foreigner.

And the many Christians who enthusiastically supported it.

It’s monstrous. And they know exactly what they’re doing.

She’s likely talking about godly people in my congregation. Who, yes, are here legally. Who are a vital part of our church.

The xenomisia is reaching a fever pitch.

Important to note that the far right online world has been griping about Somalians for sometime now. Definitely a gripe for the CN guys I follow.

IOW, this is not a principled policy point, but rather detritus from the online world washing up on the shore of the president’s press conferences.
