one of the greatest human triumphs of my lifetime is the relentless, unceasing, heroic effort by DECADES' worth of doctors and scientists to find a cure for a disease much of the world didn't take seriously for years because it predominantly affected a community they thought kinda deserved it
If they are doing this to white people in broad daylight imagine what they are doing to non-white people in detention facilities.

A friend got top surgery last month and turns out, I had heard their surgeon speak at a conference in 2019 about his commitment to working in gender-affirming care! That's cool as shit to know about your surgeon.
And it's been a needed tonic in 2025 to see docs talk about that in their homework.
You're lucky to get 30 minutes with your doctor these days and it sucks for everyone. I wish some of my classmate's patients and people in the areas they work could know the behind-the-scenes work they're doing to get creative in a shitty system.
There's plenty to hate about the American healthcare system, public health is being torn apart and holy shit, it's a depressing time to be in grad school.
But it's genuinely heart-warming to log on and hear people talk about how they're trying to make their sphere a little better.
An unexpected perk of doing my DrPH while working is seeing people take academic knowledge and move it to the real world. A classmate mentioned she took evidence-based screening questions about intimate partner violence from the readings and implemented them at her practice as a surgeon.
"There were forty-seven members in the compassion club, and zero deaths occurred among members during the year that the site operated. Since the site was raided and shut down by Vancouver police, at least two members have reportedly died."
