Hey #scicomm folks!
I am looking for a diverse crew to represent their fields with their head shot and a fun fact they like from their field of study, but SPECIFICALLY:
-a geologist/volcanist or gemologist
-a zoologist
-astronomer
-a paleontologist
-a structural engineer
Amazon is working OK for me now, and it sounds like it is working for many others as well.
Amazon data centers in UAE and Bahrain were damaged by drone strikes earlier this week, and many are assuming this outage is related, but I cannot find anything definitive.
Romance hive mind! I have a friend looking for something specific and it's outside what I read so I have no recs! They're hoping for something with a female dom and male sub, some hurt/no comfort vibes, in romantic fantasy or fantasy romance. Indie or trad!! Got any suggestions for me?

A charming rom-com about a young womanβs desperate attempts to fend off her meddling mother, only to find that maybe mother does know best...
Love, Lies, and Cherry Pie is just $1.99 in ebook this month! (US/Canada)
I think for contemporary, ppl will say "cozy vibes" but not use it beyond that. But I'm thinking mainly wrt fantasy/romantasy/romance with light magical elements.
04.03.2026 23:50 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0this is partly a "I anticipate my book might be called cozy, even if I do not use the word myself, and how will that affect reader expectations?" situation for me lol

I assume it's the vibes and low angst, violence/major trauma off-page (have read a few different things about the label but haven't thought deeply about it).
But to me violence off page is very different from sex off page when it comes to romance.
I think I'm now seeing more harrowing cancer than harrowing publishing, which is great, ahahaha
The algorithm is intense, that's for sure.
yeah, I was pretty sure it's the convention for cozy mysteries (which is the main long-running subgenre with "cozy" in the name?) but now it's used for various other things...
04.03.2026 23:16 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0as a reader, it doesn't for me, either.
04.03.2026 23:14 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Do many people assume that anything labelled "cozy" won't have on-page sex? Or that the on-page sex will be quite...vague? It seems to me that some readers do assume this, but I'm unsure if most do.

It was just one iffy night of sleep post chemo, and I have come through the worst of it now. Should be ok for the next 2+ weeks.
04.03.2026 02:02 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The last 5-6 months have made me even more fed up with the publishing business. I just don't want to think about it at all. But I still like writing...and I don't feel like I can fully separate those two things.
04.03.2026 00:08 β π 33 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0actually, I believe the reason I was even thinking of this yogurt (despite not having it in like 20 years) was because someone posted the salted caramel one on instagram within the past week.
03.03.2026 23:51 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0yeah, that's probably the one I'd pick!

Heads up Canadians!
An Albertan food rescue charity cannot afford their rent and risk closing. Watch this CBC report on their services, and then please share this post.

Apparently steroids can cause insomnia, so that explains a lot. (I take steroids on my chemo days.)
Possibly I was told this before, but who knows. Hard to keep track of the side effects of everything.
salted caramel wouldn't be my first choice, but I'd happily eat it! They all sound so good.

Maybe next time I have chemo, I'm going to get one of those high fat dessert-like Liberte yogurt tubs.
Ice cream doesn't appeal to me now but I have been able to eat yogurt.
lol I just went to threads for the first time today, and that (well, a quote of it) was the second post I was shown.

I am going to link to organizations that I know for sure are helping trans Kansans. This thread will develop slowly as I either know people or will vet them.
At this point we have not heard from anyone being helped via relocation resources. These exist, but I assume they are overwhelmed.
I think I read the book when I was quite young, but I do not remember it at all!
