We have lost the pillar of Scottish vertebrate palaeontology, Dugie Ross. The man that found & named Dearc. He made the science resonate locally, in his native language, on his native soil, while allowing it to grow globally. He embodied the best of science. Immeasurable loss.

A recent piece I did for work - Archaeopteryx! Don't get too excited though, this isn't a concept for a VFX animal, moreso just a one-off illustration. It was a really fun exercise in learning how to render out bigger swathes of feathers!

Very rough black-and-white pencil sketch on a piece of paper, depicting the Toronto Subway Deer as a Mule-deer-like member of Odocoileus. It’s staring directly at the viewer, with a relatively thick neck and wide-spanning antlers. The outline of the actual specimen (a skull cap with broken antlers attached) is visible within the life reconstruction.

The same sketch as in the other image, this time digitally placed over a photo of the specimen and next to a black human silhouette + a two-meter-tall scale bar.

Quick sketch (will likely add to it later) of the Toronto Subway Deer, formerly Torontoceros hypogaeus. A new paper has analyzed dna from the only known specimen (fragment of skull + antlers), and it’s a member of Odocoileus! Likely the closest relative of Mule Deer. #pleistocene #canada #sciart

Here's some footage of Tom Hanks recording his part as Woody in Toy Story with the audio that would end up in the final film. It's pretty cool to see this footage and see Hanks record this character considering how it would be a big part of film history.

Quick sketches of a concept I just had for my personal spec-evo project, a Kerguelen “Panther” that’s actually a cat-convergent Tritylodont.
