Not much of an update rn
More of the same, y'know, bad work ethic, some things done but really not much
Okay, so I've gotten pixilart on my phone so I can use it during the 2 1/2 hours I spend at the park every Wednesday.
There, I'll have no choice but to work on the sprites because there's no WiFi out there.
Checkmate, me.
You might be thinking "wow, you must have gotten a lot done in the last week-ish since you posted!"
No.
Unfortunately not.
But I'm hoping to pick up tempo again, and I've started by (I think) finishing the first enemy sprite sheet.
Probably not gonna get any work done tomorrow or the day after, my schedule's pretty packed
So, y'know, don't expect any posts.
The sprites on the sprite sheet aren't exactly equal length away, but I'm just gonna fix that after I've got the animations sorted out.
I just wanna get them drawn and ready
Okay, leaving this here for future me:
1. Need to add rotation and ground pound sprite frames to player character sprite sheet
2. Need to fill out enemy sprite sheets
Oh, and you should also finish the enemy sprite sheets first
Anyway, yeah, it's been an hour and I have done, quite literally, negative amounts of work
26.10.2025 13:24 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0This game is slowly expanding beyond the simplistic parameters I first set in motion, and while I did expect this, and am not entirely against it, there is another game idea I'd like to make and I'm forcing it back by doing this
26.10.2025 13:18 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Might add ground pounding to my game, tbh.
I'll have to add something to the player character sprite sheet, but it also gives me an idea for a new enemy.
I think I'm gonna start making small little deadlines of work I should do each day.
Like, for today, I want to finish the baseline sprites for each enemy, and maybe get one of their spritesheets done.
Started making the enemies sprites, I'll probably put all of them in the same sprite sheet cuz why tf not
25.10.2025 12:07 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Finally started doing what I should've been doing this whole time: taking notes.
Tbf I've been remembering a lot of everything pretty well, but I've started to get to the point where I can't trust myself to just remember something important I've learned, because of how much I've learned in general
I've now reached the point of the tutorial where the game I'm making differs heavily mechanically from the type of game the guy in the tutorial is making.
I'll keep following the tutorial and adding the bits that apply, but also just learning stuff that'll apply in the future.
OH MY GOD, YOU CAN CHANGE IT YOU WERE RIGHT
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR CAUSING ME TO DOUBLE CHECK
Idk, every video I watched (including one that stated it was 4.3+) showed that the button was really obvious, and for me it's just not there.
I also saw some forum posts saying that game devs should just adjust their sprites.
I'll look into it some more though, cause these big sprites are REALLY bad
I'm three tiles deep on the upscaling, and I hate how it's looking.
I prefer the originals, and I wish I could use them
I wish I could simply adjust the Godot tile cell size.
And the thing that irks me the most? You used to be able to.
The worst part is, that this shouldn't take long at all. This should be extremely simple and quick, if I could just focus
23.10.2025 11:59 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Wow, it's so fun that there's no way to rescale the tile map size in Godot so I have to go back and edit all of these to be 16x16.
Whatever, my laptop's almost dead so I'll just do this tomorrow
The current standing tile set for my game. It consists of five columns and four rows. From left to right on each row: Row one: A grey concrete tile, two variants of carpeted stone tiles, the top half of a banner with a cross on, and the top of a tree. Row two: two variants of stone tiles, the bottom half of a banner tile, and the midsection of a tree. Row three: a candle, two halves of a decorated table, and the bottom tile of a tree. Row four: another candle, this one slightly further left, two variants of dirt tiles, and a dirt tile with grass on it.
Finished (for now) tile set. I'll probably add more later when I get to the later levels, but this'll do for now.
@outsider10k.bsky.social
5 tiles. From the top left to bottom middle, in reading order, they are a grey cracked rock, a grey lightly scratched rock (which I might get rid of), two brown dirt tiles, and a grass-dirt tile
This is the old set (blurry because it's like 400 pixels total)
I've added a couple since then, but I can't post them just yet cause I'm not done, if you want to see them when they're done I can do that though!
Okay, so I didn't get anything done yesterday but basically what I'm doing now is expanding my tile set, because for some reason I thought they'd automatically have collision, or that applying collision to some would apply it to them all, so I didn't have any background stuff done
22.10.2025 12:15 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Please help this solo #gamedev to reach 20 followers! I make #art for games too!
Feel free to check out the links in my bio for game assets and games!
Fuck it I'm running it with only five.
I can always add more later.
I've come up with what enemies I want in the game, no art yet though, still working on the ground and shit
20.10.2025 19:38 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I feel like I'm missing something because my sprite set only has two (maybe four if I change the intended stages) sprites in it (not counting enemies and background non-collidable decoration)
20.10.2025 18:14 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I cannot focus on drawing these platforms to save my life.
Thank God there's no estranged trigger-happy psychos who are just lookin' for an excuse to kill someone walking around.
Halfway through these level designs and in realising that I can't actually draw this
So I'm gonna go for something simpler, like maybe make Minecraft-esque tiles and using those
But it's not doing it's idle animation like the tutorial guide guy's is, so is it working or not?? Is it functioning differently due to an update or is an instantiation different from drag-n'-dropping onto the root scene????
I can't fucking tell!
I don't fucking know!
I'm trying to drag it from the same place the guy in the tutorial did, but that was a year ago so they might've changed it...
I'm dragging it from the FileSystem panel, yes.
I think instantiating works.
But, it might be something entirely different and I might've fucked myself over in a way I won't understand until it is far too late.
But I'm gonna run it anyway
