Okay so RetroAchievements:

Removed the Romhack
Removed the staff member pushing for it from Admin
Banned a bunch of the chuds trying to pile on
Removed some other stuff that shouldn't have been there
Reinstated and unblocked accounts that shouldn't have been

I think they're handling this right tbh

What's the point of sending a support email with the text "think carefully and avoid acting in the heat of the moment"

like come on that is literally just a personal "you shouldn't of been so reactionary against us!" and so unnecessary. Just include the necessary info don't be like "haha dummy".

The situation as is doesn't really matter to most people. What matters is what happened/initial response. You're all gonna have to live with that.

Even if some users are still being too harsh in your eyes, RA still has only themselves to blame. A lot of people won't bother to look deeper into it because they're done with it, and that's something the site and the community has to bear as a result of their actions. No use throwing a fit about it

It's really hard for most people who aren't intimately involved with things to even see that changes ARE being made, they're not very front facing about it. Also saying you'll validate their choice to do so is so fake given the post I initially quoted. All of this reads as bs given ur thread so.

Not only did it take multiple days, it was very difficult for anyone not intimately involved to even find out anything was happening.

Threads simply got locked, offending posts only said muted, not banned etc. Seems like the site didn't support proper ways of banning so we couldn't even tell.

Saying everything was resolved after that one announcement is a gross misunderstanding of the situation and what continued to happen afterwards for a day or so. Also, people are allowed to decide they don't wanna use RA even after the resolution, as they lost their faith in the site and the mods.

apparently they're finally starting to ban people but whew did it take a while.

I just don't understand how they've basically had to be forced to remove the chuds. like. i think it was obvious from the very start what was going on.

it just seems like all that's being done is trying to hide it and pretend it doesn't exist rather than take permanent action against anything.

minor update on this, chuds have been making forum threads basically all day because well, they've been accepted until now and the admins find them embarrassing enough to play whac-a-mole with locking the threads but inexplicably, won't just ban the embarrassing people making and posting in them.

hm mby even after everything I still don't feel comfy with my work being on the site. Will have to see how things go these next few days but this is so fucked up and I've been peeping the forums/discord as the day goes on and the mods just do nothing to stop any of the bigots from toeing the line.

What is it gonna take for them to realize that things are happening in every aspect of life? That their games are not safe because they are just games, or art. Politics is in every part of our life, people put their ideologies into their art, and consuming it has a real impact. They need to wake up.

This is the pretty common consensus after yesterday, it seems. People see politics coming for their fun little side hobby and are like woah woah woah I thought I was safe here from having to have an opinion.

So many people probably just think things are kinda bad, and not as awful as they are. 2/3

I think before yesterday I didn't realize just how many people would rather bury their head in the sand and pretend like nothing bad happens.

I see so many "I wish people with different political views would be able to understand and tolerate each other" from gamers in RA and other communities. 1/3
