Saw the same feature on a Delta flight last month.
To quote Upton Sinclair, “It is difficult to get a man to understand something, when his salary depends upon his not understanding it.” (See quoteinvestigator.com/2017/11/30/s...)
And why is it that no one ever mentions Terry Winograd, who was the Principal Investigator on that NSF grant?
Sorry, should have used this link (I love Quote Investigator):

I’ve found the Eisenhower quote to be more useful: “Plans are worthless, but planning is everything.” (But as a prior poster noted, General Powell was quoting Prussian Field Marshal Helmuth von Moltke the Elder.)
It means how dare you question our miltary when they are in the field hummadahummada regime change blahblah damn terrorists glubglub end time rapture!!!!
So I’m getting the sense that a ground invasion is a bad idea, which means it’s likely to happen based on the quality of leaders we have…
And that cubic model crap was from “I’m gonna be the next Fed chair” Hassett????
Where the Allied forces could be marshaled on LAND before crossing the channel? Getting a sizable land force launched from an aircraft carrier is NOT the same thing!
Congrats to @cdelawalla.bsky.social and your whole @standupforscience.bsky.social team for pulling this off today! We all know that the hard work continues…
This was my hastily-composed contribution courtesy the very handy “make your own sign” booth
Wasn’t as on the ball with the photos this year but I enjoyed seeing these
On my way to the rally in Washington DC—on the National Mall near the Hirshhorn Sculpture Garden starting at noon. Who’s going to out-do this sign from last year? #standupforscience #science #sciencepolicy

Few things bother Trump more than someone grifting off his grift

Yes but there used to be 100+ academic reactors used for teaching and research. Now we have a couple of dozen. neup.inl.gov/infrastructu...
Unreal.
Times are different. People find passion inspiring, not simple dignity. In this case, the theatrics signal that these Democrats are willing to stand up and resist—and that’s what their constituents need to see.
I’m just impressed that an early-career scientist leading a valiant effort to ensure the survival of the US scientific enterprise is also very well read on 18th-century French history. Another blow to the erroneous distinction between “techies” and “fuzzies.” (I really despise false dichotomies.)
You could reasonably argue that supporting a family in the US is by default affordable only with 2 incomes. The difference is that our poor childcare infrastructure deters that, which limits many families to a subsistence level of existence.
A colleague just went thru pre-check flying out of BWI and said there was no shut down of any lines.
Not to give your team more work after this excellent analysis, but it would be interesting to scale the bubbles based on % of the local population, not absolute crowd size. I’ll see if it’s possible to correlate the data with Census MSA pop data.
My @rti.bsky.social colleague Ivy Estabrooke and I had the pleasure of discussing state funding of scientific research with @aniloza.bsky.social for his piece in @statnews.com. He details some initiatives we omitted when writing about this for @science.org last month. #sciencepolicy
Absolutely. Our greatest deficit is a lack of imagination to diverge from what we’ve already done. A prominent research leader recently said something simple but profound: “If it happened, it must be possible.” We can’t imagine how we got here so we think that conventional solutions will suffice.
This is the toxic aspect of Democratic Senators voting to confirm Trump nominees because it’s “tradition” to accommodate their R colleagues. Once these nominees are confirmed, they’re free to move to other leadership positions in federal agencies with dire consequences.
