If you go to war, you commit to winning it. This means you need a goal. Otherwise it falls somewhere between massacre and genocide for its own sake.

Most war decisions are stupid. This is a similar version of the same. When you start one with no actual end goal (see pretty much every war but Gulf 1 since WWII) you can not accurately engage in large scale planning.
