Small addition: being in the House as the minority is a thankless task, so the prospect of once again being in the majority is hard for any incumbent to resist.
Bean ran as a Dem because the Republican incumbent was a flat out drunk. When she won she quickly became an ally of the Republicans. She only lost her reelection effort because she ran against a tea party crazy (who later turned into a never-Trumper). Il-08 deserves better.
